Planning on move to Boston, job needed

Hi Everyone,

My FI and I are planning on moving to the Boston area after we get married (55 days!). However, before we can do this, he needs to find a job there; we currently live in Colorado. I'm hoping someone here can help me. He is an engineer, with experience in many different fields of engineering. He travels 100% and we hardly see each other, so he's looking for something different. Does anyone know of ANY possible job openings in the engineering industry? I know this is such a specific question, but we're pretty desperate.

Also, even if you know of a reputable head hunter or recruiter you can refer me to, I would appreciate it so much. It's hard to find these things from 2,000 miles away and trust some of the companies Google pulls up. Thank you so much for your help.

  • What kind of engineering specifically?  I know you said he's diverse, but really software vs. mechanical vs. civil vs. structural are all very different.

Once DH put his resume up on Monster and some other job boards he had recruiters hounding him.  I'm not that familiar with engineering recruiters, but your DH could start by signing up for job alerts on Indeed.com and maybe check out Dice.com, a tech-specific job board.  Good luck!

  • Thank you! He's done mechanical, electrical, laser, robotic, optical, networking, etc. Engineering is so broad, but those are mainly where he has had experience.

I will have him upload his current resume with Monster. He practically stalks indeed too. I don't know if he's heard of dice.com, so thank you so much. We'll look into this.

  • There are a lot of various companies in MA and southern NH in the types of engineering you mentioned. I'd also recommend uploading his resume to monster.com and careerbuilder.com and he can also search for jobs on that site too and apply for positions. Also if he sees a company he lives but he doesn't like the position he can research the company's website and send them his resumes directly. Maybe even try googling various key words with MA in the search to find other companies as well. GL!

  • MrsC - We've done ALL of that! It's getting really frustrating, as anyone looking for a job can relate to. The only thing he hasn't done is update his resume on Monster because he doesn't want his current boss to run into it. I don't know what we would do if that happened. I really appreciate the advice.

  • I'm pretty sure that on all the big job boards you can set it up so no one at your current employer can see it.  Not sure how it works exactly, but I'm sure there's some explanation on the sites.

  • Hmm, I'll have to look into that more.

  • For the Boston area, I think BostonWorks is a good website, I'm not sure for engineering specifically, but I got my job in education from there.  It's assoiated with Boston.com, the Boston Globe's web presence, which when you move here trust the Globe not the Herald, you'll look like an out-of-towner.

My SIL is an engineer in Concord, MA, so I'll ask her if she has any tips and PM if I hear of anything from her.
