how do I clean my electric cooktop stove?
Just moved into a new house and not only am I now having to cook with electric (big change from gas!), I've got this Kitchenaid cooktop stove which is throwing me for a loop! I'm just not used to it yet- everything heats up so much faster.... which means stuff is boiling over left and right. How do I clean the dang thing? I've managed to create this nasty burn buildup on one of the burners and I can't get it off even with my plastic scraper (is that a no no?). What cleaners can I use on a regular basis? And when I do have a buildup, what's the best way to get it off? TIA!

Re: how do I clean my electric cooktop stove?
For every day, we just use plain old dish soap and water, then shine it up with Mrs. Meyers or Method all-surface cleaner spray.
For stuboorn gunk or buildup, I use baking soda and the pink or purple (whichever I have at the time) Scotch Brite no-scratch sponge. There is also a Scotch Brite sponge for cooktops, but I've never used it.
ETA: This is the sponge I like the best:

we use this Easy Off spray for cleaning our cooktop (ours is a smaller spray bottle, but the label looks about the same):

Ditto this. I just bought some of this recently and it works AMAZINGLY! I just sprayed it at night and then the next day wipe it out and it comes off super easy.

For the stubborn stuff, Magic Eraser "Extra Strength". Make a paste of baking soda, set it ont he buildup. Let set for 5-10 (don't let it get dry). And then rub with Magic Eraser. We've had ours 2 years and it still looks new.
I've been meaning to get one of these to try but the last thing I need is another tool/cleanser etc. http://www.amazon.com/ScotchBrite-3M-Cook-Cleaner-Starter/dp/B001CJGO94 I always have baking soda and magic eraser and then I know I'm not using any strange chemicals.
