Go USA!!!

We're getting very close...I'm so excited as I'm watching in London with two American friends and my British DH.  It should be a great game!

Re: Go USA!!!

  • I'm watching with my dh (english) and his friend (english) and our son (1/2 and 1/2), so it is 1.5 to 2. I hope the US wins!

  • That was a bit stressful, but I am okay with the final result. I am glad Tim Howard was able to keep playing. That could have be disastrous if he had to go out.

Ditto! He did a great job.  It would have been great to win, but I'm happy with the tie.

  • Yeah, it was a stressful game to say the least! But Howard is amazing, and the game was so fun to watch. GO USA!

The game would have been completely different if Howard had gone out.  He's the only reason they came away with a draw.  That's probably the best performance I've seen him give!  But he's going to have a hell of a bruise tonight/tomorrow!

Donovan had an ok game.  Dempsey obviously had a better one.  Rooney was practically non-existant for England.  He made a couple of attacking runs but was pretty quiet, IMO.

The british media is going to tear Green apart.  And he probably lost his position as starting goalie.

BTW, what was with all the cards?!  Holy crap.

  • It sounded like Green's position of starting keeper was not very strong to begin with. I believe he only had 10 caps prior to this game. It sounded like Capello could have gone with any of the three and was not really saying who he was going to play right up until game time. I would be surprised if Green started the next one though.

  • I am not sure if Howard or Green was our MVP...def happy with the outcome and I am ready to see if we can pick up our defense in Friday's game
  • I headed to Buffalo Wild Wings where I'm at and watched the match. What an exciting game and great atmosphere.

I'm sad that the game will be on during work, but I'll just have to keep it going in the background. I hope Howard's OK and that we can carry this momentum into Friday.

England's keepers are an interesting crew.  They're all good to great talent.  You've got David James (currently Portsmouth, but has played for Watford, Liverpool, Aston Villa, WestHam and Man City), who's 40, probably the best of the group - he holds the Premiership record for the number of clean sheets - but he has a reputation to be prone to the odd calamity.  Then Joe Hart (Man City), who's probably the future of England keeping on an international stage but, at age 23, is seen as too young and inexperienced right now.  Then there's Green (WestHam), age 30, who's probably the least of the three in terms of raw talent and grace under fire.  Personally, I've no idea why on earth Capello went with him.

I think Capello is doing them a disservice by waffling.  He needs to pick one and stick with it.  IMO, that needs to be James at this point.  I do think Hart is too green for the starting position.
