poll: tattoos/piercings

do you have any tattoos or piercings?  if so, what/where?  when did you get it done?  do you regret it? Smile  bonus points for PIPs!

if not, have/would you ever consider getting one?

i noticed a small tattoo the other day on a coworker whom I wouldn't have thought was the "type" to get one - so it got me thinking - you just never know!  just curious Smile

Re: poll: tattoos/piercings

  • I have 1 hole in each ear - got them done in 6th grade.  i was petrified and the first hurt like h*ll, i don't think i wanted the second one done, haha.  then one in particular kept getting infected, annoying.

i also have my rook pierced: image

It didn't hurt, but took for-freaking-ever to heal - like, 6 months.  I trained myself to sleep either on my back or on my right side during that time.   I love that it's there, but really subtle, most people don't even notice it.  If I rotate the bar toward the front/inward, it's even harder to see.  i got it done about 5 years ago - my sister and I went together during one of her visits, she got a hoop in her helix.  don't regret it - i don't even really remember it's there.  but, right after i got it done, before I even hopped off the table, I asked the guy - "erm, maybe a little late for this, but what if in 20 years I decide I hate it and want to take it out?"  haha.  (answer: the hole would probably stay, but the skin would grow over it)

i love looking at other people's tattoos, but don't think i'd ever commit to one myself.  I don't think i could ever decide on one that I'd want to keep forever - and I'm scared of the pain. Smile

  • I have 4 tattoos and one piercing.  Two tattoos I regret (not getting them, the design), two I don't.  In order of getting them:

At 18, a tattoo on the lower right side of my back of happy/sad drama masks.  I like to think of it as my Mexican gang tattoo.  It's icky and faded 18 years later, and i like to cover it up with a plumeria design.  Since I can't see it, it doesn't bother me immensely, but if I had to do it over.....

At 23 while in Vegas celebrating my BFF's 30th birthday we got matching tattoos on our ankles.  It's tribal with a rose in the middle.  SO not my style at all.  Needless to say we're also not friends anymore.  Big mistake.

About 6 years ago I was a member of Weight Watchers and wanted to reward myself for losing my 10% so I got my belly button piereced.  This was actually the second time, the first time I did it was some girlfriends probably in about 1999 and they didn't do it deep enough so I had to take it out.  This one was great and it's still there.  I love my belly ring because what I wear, I've never seen on anyone else.

3 years ago this month I got a kanji tattoo on the back of my neck which reads 'eternal love' and the knaji for Todd's name and my name are there too.

Last fall I got a pink ribbon tattooed on my foot for my Avon Walk for breast cancer experience.  Yes, it was that life changing.

  • Once upon a time I had each ear pierced three times, but only the first holes in each remain open now.  I've always wanted my nose pierced, and was going to do it for my 30th birthday, but chickened out!  :P

I do have a small tattoo, kind of on the back of my left hip.  It's a treble clef, but instead of ending with just a circle at the bottom, it turns into a daisy (my favorite flower). I wanted it for years, and got it to celebrate graduating from college with a music degree back when I was 22.  I don't regret it at all, partly because it still (and will always) means a lot to me, and also because, due to its location, I often forget I have it!  I can't see it, unless I really try, and you can't see it, even in a swimsuit, unless I feel like showing it to you.  It's sort of like my own private way of claiming my body for myself, marking it as my own, but not in an obvious way, you know?

  • No tattoos here!  I just never could break down and do it.  I always wanted some stars on my foot but then everyone seemed to be doing it in my group of friends.  Quite happy that I never did all that.

Piercings - Well each ear has 3 holes but I don't think 2 of them on each ear would even take an earring.  So I stick to the basic!

  • Good grief! I have 14 tattoos. I only regret one which was a cover up of something I'd much rather live with than a huge black star on my shoulder. I have a star on my neck, plumeria behind my rt ear, a trail of stars on the top of my back, a fairy on my lower back, kanji and butterflies on my left hip area, and flowers and kanji on various parts of my legs and feet. I've had almost everything taht can be seen pierced at one point or another. I've had 27 piercings in my ears, my eyebrow(grunge phase, IDK), septum, labret, tongue, and belly button. I only have 2 in each ear now. But I still have the holes from the septum piercing and the labret. Nice walking around with a hole on your chin. Embarrassed That one I liked when I had it but wish it would have closed. Guess it's gonna be a little harder for me to tell my kids they can't have any piercings huh?!
  • I have 9 piercings: 3 in each ear lobe, 1 in my upper right helix (towards the top and I never knew it was called a helix pierce!), 1 in my middle left helix (but I had to remove it b/c after 3 years it kept getting grossly infected) and my bellybutton.  For the upper ear lobes, I really really really wanted to do an industrial but my lobes don't curl around enough and the piercing artist said if he did it it would just rip out.  Ouch.  Sandra - I love your rook piercing and, yes, I never did notice it!

  • I used to have a lot of piercings, but I had to take most of them out before the military.  At various times I had my belly button, my tongue, my eyebrow, and my nose pierced.  I also had a bar going across the top of my ear (called an industrial).  And two holes in each ear.

For tattoos, I have shamrocks on my foot, a shamrock on my hip, a flower on my back with what I call my "Ode to Home".  It include the Hawaiian islands, palm trees for each of my family members and the islands off the beach I grew up on (the Mokulua Islands).  I definitely plan on getting more but I have to figure out where because, as of right now, you can't see any of my tattoos at work.  I'm running out of places to put them that could be easily hidden.

  • I have three tattoos.  I have a four leaf clover "tramp stamp" on my lower back.  I also have my name on my hip.  My favorite tattoo is of a flower on my shoulder.  My first name is Sally and I'm a redhead.  There is a salvia plant called the "Red Hot Sally," so that is what I got.  It's not your typical flower like a rose or lily, so when most people see it they don't know what it is.  I've gotten asked if it chili peppers, fireworks, or a Christmas tree.  I don't have a picture of my tattoo with me here in Ohio, but here is a picture of the actual flower.

    image

  • I have three holes in my right ear and two in my left. I had my belly button pierced but took it out because B wasn't too fond of it. Guess I probably would have taken it out while I was pregnant anyways. I also have a tattoo on my right hip. It's the kanji character for "success". I got it when I was 19 and I guess I thought it would motivate me to be successful? I don't regret it. I actually don't even notice it and totally forget it's there. B and I were planning to get tattoos after our wedding but haven't gotten around to it. Partly because I don't know where I want it. I was going to get his (our) last name in Alibata, which is the ancient Filipino writing. And he was gonna get my maiden name in kanji, though I might prefer he get my middle name.

  • I have my ears pierced and a tattoo on my inner left ankle.  The tattoo I regret, somewhat, not really what I got but the size.  I got my tattoo done in Hawaii with my then ex boyfriend who lived there, I was 18 and it was his gift to me.  I really should have thought it through a bit more.  Anyway, I have kanji for strength and like I said, I don't mind what I got but it's a bit too big IMO.  I remember Mike the tattoo artist that my ex knew quite well saying "you're getting strength, you can't get a 'little' strength..."  It's not huge by any means but having it a little smaller would be better, that and MH does NOT like my tattoo at all. :)

Funny....I have recently been contemplating a 'strength' tattoo!

  • I'm so boring - the only thing I have pierced are my ears, and those are only one hole in each. Super boring. But hey, here's a photo since you asked Stick out tongue:

    image

I've thought a LOT about getting a tattoo, but I can never settle on a design - whenever I think of something I might want, I wait a couple of months to make sure that I still like it, and invariably I don't (and think "thank god I didn't get that!"). If I was to go out and get a tattoo right now, I think it would be a word or phrase from a favorite book (although I'm not sure what phrase lol) but I don't know where I'd get it.

  • I only have 1 in each ear.

I really wanted 2 tattoos.  1 is my kamon, or family crest.  I wanted to get that on my shoulder.

I also wanted to get a Rimbo, which is the Buddhist Dharma wheel.  The one I wanted would have had a lotus flower in the the centre.  I wanted to get that on my back between my shoulder blades.

Call me a baby but the reason I haven't gotten them is because my parents would never accept a tattoo.  They have a completely different opinions of tattoos and see it as a disrespectful thing.  They would be offended (and said my ancestors would be as well) if I got the kamon tattoo.

My parents opinion means a lot to me, so I won't do it.

There hasn't really been any other design I wanted so the desire to get one has kind of waned...

I wanted mine, too!  But I don't have a picture of it and no one knows what it is.  Which side are you supposed to use?  I thought I remember someone saying it was supposed to be your mom's mom's side?  Is that right?

  • I have the standard one hole in each ear now.  When I was about 23 I got my nose pierced (just a little diamond stud) & I LOVED it.  now DH, then BF HATED it.  I had it probably for six months before it fell out in my sleep one night & by the time I realized it, I felt the hole had already closed, which I am sure it hadn't, but I was done fighting about it.  I also had my helix piereced very briefly in college, but it got a pretty nasty infection so I took it out within a week or two.  I am allergic to nickel so I really shouldn't have any piercings.  Now I very rarely wear even my regular earrings unless it is a really special occasion & with nickel-free earrings, and even then they still aggravate the hell out of me!

No tattoos.  I have always thought about getting one, but wanted to make sure it was something I would love forever.  The only real contender was the fleur de lis, but I am really glad I didn't b/c after Katrina, literally everyone (and I do mean everyone) got some sort of fleur de lis tattoo.  and while I completely understand the desire, I don't want the same (or a variation of ) the tattoo every single other person in the city has.

  • I got a tramp stamp when I was 18, then added more to it when I was 21. I also have a gecko on my left foot (my bestie from Hawaii and I got it together). Then in 2008, I decided to get a HUGE back piece done and covered up my tramp stamp. It's still a work in progress, but it's getting there.

I also have 2 peircings in one year and three in another. I'm military though so usually I have to take them out. :oP

I have a friend who got both of her girls' baby footprints with their names and birthdates underneath.  It was SO adorable!

  • no tattoos - I'm just not interested and could never think of something I would want permanently - plus I would be scared of how they might age  :)  My sister has a tattoo that takes up her entire back and I have to admit, it suits her - it's just sooooo not something I'm interested in.

piercings - use to have 3 in each each ear but I doubt I could get anything through the 3rd holes, so I guess just 2.  I also use to have my belly button pierced but took it out about 2 years ago.

  • I have one tattoo on the inside of my left ankle that I got when I was 18.  Is old my books at the end of the semester to afford it before leaving school...lol!  It's the dove from Picasso's Dance of Youth:

    image

I drew it on my ankle everyday for 6 months before deciding to get it.  I am so glad that I did...I've never regretted it!  Sometimes people ask if my tattoo artist screwed up since the dove is a bit "abstract"...and once someone immediately recognized it as Picasso's design.

I had my belly button pierced when I was 18 but it got infected because it was too deep of a piercing.  So I only have double holes in my ears and that's it (and I only use one on each side these days anyway).

  • I have my ears pierced (one in each ear) and my belly button pierced.  I had my belly button pierced since I was 19.  I want to take it out now because I don't have the stomach for it now like I used to and I'm just bored with it.  I have been contimplating taking it out myself, but scared it will get infected or something.

I also have two tattoos, one on my tail bone and I have another on my lower back hip area.  I got my first one at 18 and my second at 19.  Luckily they are on my backside so I don't see them and sometimes forget I have them.  I don't know if I regret getting them, but I'm just a little over them.

Like Lisa & Vanessa & Chika, I only have my ears pierced the usual one hole in each. And also like them, I also always wanted a tattoo but never ended up getting one.

I wanted the kanji symbol for water (because I love water and everything aquatic, lots of other kanji characters are pretty popular so this would be more unique to me, and there's not very many strokes in the character so it will hurt less =P)...but I never ended up getting it because I wanted it on my shoulder and I wasn't 100% sure if I would ever regret it (esp since it would be pretty visible most of the time) and I would hate to have to go through the pain of lasering it off. Also I'm allergic to almost every other thing so I would have to do a tattoo allergy test first and I just never got around to doing that.

  • I'm boring - only my ears are pierced and it is just one hole in each ear :)

I'm surprised how many piercing and tattoos we have on this board!

  • At one point, I had two holes in each ear, my helix in one ear and my nose pierced.  I had my first holes in like 4th grade, second at 15, nose and helix at 18.  I outgrew the nose thing, gone, second holes, gone and the helix bothered me too much, gone.  I had to get my first holes repierced for the wedding in 2008.

I have two tattoos.  One on my right hip, two colorful fish frolicking in the water (don't know what they are doing really), well they used to be colorful fuschia and orange, now they are light pink and yellow.  And they seem much bigger than they used to, guess that comes with weight gain.  Oh, and the water is not so much blue and aqua anymore.  I got it at 19 with my bff.  I also have a lower back tat that I got in my early 30's.  It is pretty big, several flowers and vines and a long tailed hummingbird.  Very colorful. At times I regret them both but only because MH HATES them, but they are part of me and my past which makes me who I am.

I can't find any pics of either one...maybe I need to call the ex boyfriend...just kidding!!

  • Funnily enough, as I was logging into Photobucket to upload the tattoo pics of mine, there was a link to tattoos on the front page of photobucket and the tattoo it was showing is awesome. My mouth dropped and I was like "Oooooooooo I LIKEY!"

    http://media.photobucket.com/image/tattoo/findstuff22/Best%20Images/Just%20For%20Fun/cherryblossomtat1.jpg?o=1

Dunno if I'd get a full back tatt though.
