Cooking Poll!

1. What is one item in your kitchen you couldn't live without?

2 What is your favourite seasoning that you cook with?

3. Who cooks the most in your home?

4. Where do you eat your dinner, do you dine at your table, outside on a deck somewhere or use your coffee table?

Re: Cooking Poll!

  • 1. What is one item in your kitchen you couldn't live without? My 8" Henkels chef knife, for sure!

2 What is your favourite seasoning that you cook with? I loooove fresh herbs - I go through basil and cilantro like crazy. Other than that, my truffle salt. I don't use it tons, but when I do... oh mama!

    3. Who cooks the most in your home? I do the cooking, he does the baking.

    4. Where do you eat your dinner, do you dine at your table, outside on a deck somewhere or use your coffee table? Our coffee table. The kitchen table seems to be perpetually covered in overflow of kitchen equipment (the KA mixer is on there now).
  • hi hi hi alyson!  i was just thinking about #4!!! hahahah

    1. What is one item in your kitchen you couldn't live without?

my rice cooker. i don't know how people make rice without one... hahahah

2 What is your favourite seasoning that you cook with?

kosher salt and pepper. simple for when you don't  know what to make... hahaha =)

    3. Who cooks the most in your home?

me. no question. but i LOVE to cook. i've been in the kitchen since i can remember. in college i worked in a gourmet resto and the chef taught me stuff... so i love to cook =)

this works out. he washes the dishes, and i cook =)

    4. Where do you eat your dinner, do you dine at your table, outside on a deck somewhere or use your coffee table?

either at the table (we only have the one dining table) and/or on the couch. hahahah

  • 1. My Henkels knife set, hands down. Expensive but soooo worth it!

    2. Hmm. I'm not sure! Probably fresh herbs - I really love adding roughly torn fresh basil to things like pasta.

    3. Me - I do probably 95% of the cooking. Ben can cook - and is even a good cook - but the deal we have is that whoever cooks doesn't have to wash the dishes, and I hate washing dishes (and love cooking) so I make sure I do the majority of the cooking lol. There are a few things - like roasts - that he always makes just because he's better at them.

    4. We used to eat at our actual dining table, but now it's nearly always at our coffee table - we have the babies in the living room, so it's easiest to keep an eye on them that way.

  • 1. What is one item in your kitchen you couldn't live without?

My random collection of cast iron cookware - pots from Martha Stewart, some calphalon pans and a wok, and an awesome, perfectly seasoned large fry pan that was MH's grandmother's.

2 What is your favourite seasoning that you cook with?

Hmmm...probably some sea salt my mom bought in Hawaii

    3. Who cooks the most in your home?

I do all the cooking because...I'm just a better cook.  MH likes to "improvise" and his taste buds are extreme.  So, say a recipie calls for a clove of garlic, he'll use the whole head b/c he likes it garlicky - but I don't!

    4. Where do you eat your dinner, do you dine at your table, outside on a deck somewhere or use your coffee table?

Sadly, our kitchen is a mess and is currently housing the living room furniture.  So we eat where ever we can - we have a kitchen island, so sometimes I eat there or in the one chair in front of the TV.  We have bad eating habits!  I have no idea how we're going to transition to a real table.  ;)

  • 1.  Haha!  I'm a Henckels fan, too!  Best gift ever!

    2.  Lemons.  I loooove sour, citrusy flavours so it goes in a lot of stuff.  DH isn't as much of a fan so I mostly use it when we're not in the same city.

    3. Me!  DH can cook but he'll just stick to one thing... like grilled pork and steamed broccoli.  Healthy, sure, but not the most exciting.

    4.  Combination of coffee table (in front of the TV) or the dining/kitchen table.

  • Oooooh...fun poll!

    1. What is one item in your kitchen you couldn't live without? Tie between the 6" hollowed Wustof chef's knife and the 7 1/2 quart Le Creuset casserole.

2 What is your favourite seasoning that you cook with? I, too, love fresh herbs (I currently have about 18 different ones in my herb garden), but overall, I'd have to say my Grandma's no-salt seasoning blend.  It's fantastic on everything from meat, to potatoes, to pasta, to salads.  Unfortunately, I won't share the recipe, as it's a family secret!  ;)

    3. Who cooks the most in your home? Definitely me.  I looooove to cook and bake both.  He isn't interested in either, though he does generally do the grilling.....he grills a fantastic steak, way better than I ever could.

    4. Where do you eat your dinner, do you dine at your table, outside on a deck somewhere or use your coffee table? When we grill, we eat outside.  We try to eat at the dining room table, but most often it's at the coffee table.  I'd like to change that as the baby gets older, though, and only eat at the table.

  • 1. What is one item in your kitchen you couldn't live without?  I would probably say our kitchen shears, but recently I just unpacked a box of wedding gifts with a really nice chef's knife...that is definitely becoming a new favorite

2 What is your favourite seasoning that you cook with?  we always use what is locally called the trinity "onions, garlic, bell peppers", but we also have a lot of dried herbs.  I am trying to get some herbs in pots, but so much to do in a new house!  Plus I really love Tony Chachere's - I could easily put it on everything I eat. http://www.tonychachere.com/

    3. Who cooks the most in your home?  definitely DH.  I don't mind cooking but he gets off of work well before I do so it just makes more sense for him to do it & he likes cooking too so it just works out!

    4. Where do you eat your dinner, do you dine at your table, outside on a deck somewhere or use your coffee table? Normally I am all about sitting at the table, but right now, we don't have a table, or a coffee table for that matter.  sigh.  (I think we are going to try to do without a coffee table & the kitchen table we ordered a month a go is still not in...argh!!)  So right now there is a lot of standing while eating or much to my dismay, eating while just sitting on the couch.  :(

  • Let me preface my response by saying that I hate cooking.  I love to eat though!  Try as I might, the cooking bug is NOT in me so I usually keep things very simple and grill 75% of the time.

    1. What is one item in your kitchen you couldn't live without?  Tongs.  I have 2 pair - one with rubber ends and one without.  I also love, love, love my mini-spatula from Pampered Chef.

2 What is your favourite seasoning that you cook with?  Right now I'm in love with kosher salt.

    3. Who cooks the most in your home?  Me.  Todd can't cook and hates it more than I do....we eat out A LOT.

    4. Where do you eat your dinner, do you dine at your table, outside on a deck somewhere or use your coffee table? Coffee table/on our laps on the couch mostly.  In the spring/summer I eat outside a lot, mostly when Todd's traveling.

  • 1. What is one item in your kitchen you couldn't live without?

    my KA mixer

2 What is your favourite seasoning that you cook with?

besides salt & pepper? :) probably crushed red pepper - i like things hot!

    3. Who cooks the most in your home?

me.... MH cooked a few times when we were dating but since getting married he never cooks. his idea of cooking dinner on his own is putting some toast in the toaster, then putting some cheese slices in between and popping it in the microwave for a few seconds to make a "lazy man's grilled cheese sandwich"

    4. Where do you eat your dinner, do you dine at your table, outside on a deck somewhere or use your coffee table?

we eat in the living room, either on the sofa or at the coffee table.  since starting solids, i will eat lunch and feed A at our dinner table so she can be in her high chair.  i am sure that once she starts really getting into solids we will eat dinner at the table. i think it's really important for families to spend meal time together, that's how i grew up :)

  • really late, but i'm going to answer anyway!

    1. What is one item in your kitchen you couldn't live without? My Shun knives (or really, just the 1 I use all the time)

2 What is your favourite seasoning that you cook with? garlic.  and of course, kosher salt.

    3. Who cooks the most in your home? I do, though I don't cook often enough

    4. Where do you eat your dinner, do you dine at your table, outside on a deck somewhere or use your coffee table? When I cook or we have take-out, we eat at the table.  When I bring home food from work, or we eat random leftovers, MH tends to stand around the kitchen island, but I'll always sit to eat.
