Okay, I'm feeling a bit overwhlemed right now. There are so many options out there, and I know how important it is to have a quality dog food!
We get our puppy on Saturday, and I don't really know where to begin. The dog food that the breeder has been using gets a 1 star review and mixed reviews online - so I'd like to switch her to something else.
What do you recommend?

Re: Recommend your dog food
Both of our dogs are on Royal Canin. It's on the pricier end, but both the dogs love it. Our lab/boxer mix is a picky eater & RC is the only thing we found that he would eat on a regular basis without a fight. Soo.. we're sticking with it.

Boo Monkey is like your dog in which he's half poodle. Because of this they need really good food, poodles have a tendency to have food allergies and can look pretty scruffy if not fed the right stuff.
We started Boo on Wellness CORE because our vet told us he had grain allergies and they had a great grain-free food. It was also pretty affordable. But he did not like the food and unless I mixed it with something he wouldn't eat it. So I decided to switch him to Blue Buffalo which is always raved about by those I knew who fed their dog it. I LOVE it! I switched about 5 months ago and I haven't looked back. Boo loves it, he looks great on it, and it's a bit cheaper than Wellness so I'm happy, too.
In the morning I mix in a scoop full of plain (NOT vanilla) yogurt into his morning bowl. Yogurt is really good for dogs at keeping them regular and good for poodles because it helps make their fur look great.
We use Authority too... I had a friend tell me that it has less carbs than other dog foods. Apparently the carbs cause hyperactivity and Hula is hyperactive enough as it is!!
This friend also liked to make stuff up all the time - so I could be completely wrong, who knows. But Hula likes the food and it doesn't break the bank!

Our dog eats Royal Canin as well. It got great reviews on dogfoodanalysis.com and our dog loves it. It's pricey, but I don't mind spending the money since it is a good quality food.
