One reason I think soccer is boring
After all the hype and excitement over the USA-UK game, the thing ends in a tie. A TIE. WTF? How lame is that? What a let down.
It wasn't even the only tie of the weekend!
Yep, I said it. I find soccer to be quite boring.
Re: One reason I think soccer is boring
eh, everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
I'm biased because I've played and loved soccer since I was a kid. I definitely don't find it boring. But other sports that a lot of people like (baseball, basketball, ect) I find really boring.
I'm well aware of this, and I did actually live abroad while I was growing up- in a Spanish speaking country no less. I don't know how many times I went along with friends to soccer practice, or was forced to watch it with family or friends.
I also find baseball to be boring. I hardly think it qualifies as a sport considering they sometimes play two games in one day, and many of the players aren't even in top physical shape (so many of them are chunky). At least soccer is a physical and intense workout... It's still mind numbingly boring though.
SO true. I wasn't into it at all until I started taking trips to my home country and it's huge there. So I got into it, started following and this is the first year I'm actually following (read: obsessing over) the World Cup. It's really awesome!
I've played soccer since I was 5 and still play on adult teams. I love playing the game.
I do however, find watching soccer to be one of the most boring sports to watch. While I appreciate the World Cup and the skills of these players (and how hot soccer players are) it just doesn't hold my attention.
Sorry you find it boring, you are missing out. I love watching international soccer and especially the World Cup. It is so exciting, I love it. Watching live is a different experience than watching on tv, but I enjoy both.
Some games are better than others. A game that ends in an tie can be much more exciting than a 5-0 blowout. I think baseball would be better off if they let regular season games end in a tie. They play so many games, you do not need to have definite winner for every one.
As for the vuvuzelas, if you watch enough you do not really notice it, it is just background noise (at least on tv).
Yes, those horns are crazy annoying. I can't believe that FIFA won't ban them. It would really be better for everyone if they did. I totally disagree that you don't notice them after a while- it's a constant blaring, annoying sound in the background. How do you not notice that?
(Hey, see... I don't like soccer but I still am watching it... Trying to like it but it's not working so far
)
it's not as boring as baseball
Or you can watch at a bar and you won't be able to hear them at all
I actually don't understand this argument. Arguably the play in the Premiership or Champions League is far more skilled--the best players from the national teams play there. Unless you are a country whose players all come from the Premiership, level of skill is diluted at the level of international play.
I think one must experience a World Cup while living in a soccer-mad country to truly, really 'get it'. It's so much more than just soccer.
I find pro-basketball to be mind-numbing and that is the highest-scoring game out there...
Yeah that's right my name's Yauch!
I do not think you need to live there, just visit during the World Cup and you will get a good feel for it. I do not think there is any other event in the world that compares. The Olympics are sort of similar, but I do not think there is any one event that everyone cares about. Different nations excel/follow different sports.
I also find pro-basketball a bit boring. I would much sooner watch college basketball.
I wish I could watch the Premiership but I do not have access to it. I don't have cable but I can watch the World Cup on Univision (Spanish channel). I am just comparing the World Cup to the other sports that are easily accessible in the US such as baseball, American football, etc.
Just for the record: I wasn't calling you out at all. If you get a chance you should try an watch Champions League next year. It sounds like you'd love it. There are some bars in the US that show the games. It takes some research, but it usually is possible to find somewhere that will show it.
