My mom's dog, Riley, has been missing for two weeks now. He's 13 years old. She got him at my urging (I even helped pay for him) when I was starting my second year of university, and although I ended up moving away the next year to go to a different school, I've always thought of him as "my dog." He's such a sweetheart.
On Sunday of the holiday weekend, my mom took Riley with her to see fireworks with her boyfriend and his dogs in the small town where the boyfriend lives. Well, Riley's a big coward. The noise from the fireworks terrified him and he ran away from my mom. They couldn't find him. They've put up posters, placed ads on Kijiji, talked to local vets and animal shelters, etc. Nothing.
I'm losing hope that she'll ever find him and I'm so sad. I keep thinking about all of the horrible things that could have happened to him wandering around by himself. How scared and hungry he must be/have been. I hope somebody's taking care of him. I hope I get to see him again.

UPDATE: HE'S BEEN FOUND! My mom's boyfriend was out four-wheeling today and spotted him in the bush! I have no idea how he could have survived for three weeks on his own, but apparently he's fine! Dirty and full of burrs, but fine! I'm so happy!
Re: poor doggy :( UPDATED
This is really common, fireworks are not fun for most dogs.
I would tell her to actually GO to the shelter/pound and look at the dogs and probably do so within a large radius, back to where you live. A terrified dog can run a long way, fast. Going to the shelters to see what they have is better then calling, sometimes the volunteer on the phone doesn't have an updated inventory of dogs or they could have him listed as a brown dog and your mom is asking about a brown and white dog.
Thanks for the advice. I'll pass it on.
I'm so happy he's ok! Poor thing
