Mystery gifts.. did you have any?

I am just sick over it, because it's a really nice gift - a knife set and bamboo cutting board. We have no idea who gave it to us. There was no card attached, and we didn't find an extra card anywhere. I don't want us to look rude and ungrateful by not sending a thank you...but what should we do?

Did any of you have this problem? Did you figure it out, and if so, how?

Re: Mystery gifts.. did you have any?

  • The only mystery gift I got was a dog statue from "Tillie".  Neither of us knows a Tillie.  The name sounds vaguely familiar to me but I cannot place it!  I have been thinking about it ever since we opened the gift after the honeymoon.  I think it may be some joke from where I used to work but that was over 4 years ago!  It is driving me CRAZY!!!  Good Luck with yours!
  • We had a  toaster oven  (probably our FAVORITe gift) that didn't have a card, my aunt gave it to us with a smaller gift and the card was on the small gift, it was probably on top of the toaster oven but obviously got moved around in transportation. I just had my mom ask since I figured that who it was from since the smaller gift was toaster oven accessories

  • if you still have them, go through your RSVP's and try to remember or write down what each person gave you.  We wrote down every gift as we opened it.

  • Luckily, no mysteries for us.  Hopefully you have a list of all of your gifts so you can see who you didn't get anything from and try to narrow it down.

  • did you register for this gift? if so, the store might be able to pull up the buyer's info.
  • gold: at Target. Do they do that? I didn't think they did....

I will have to try to figure it out by who came. The trouble is, there were some no-show RSVPs and I'll have to try to remember which ones didn't show. I may have to resort to asking on FB or something. lol

  • Ours was the waffle maker.  I actually put something up on Facebook.  I thought it might have been from my aunt and she's on there, I was right!  She emailed my sister saying it was from her.

  • Thankfully that did not happen to us! Good luck finding out who its from!

  • We got one that what delivered to use whilewe where on HM.  It was on our our list so i had to call target to see who sent it to us.  It was from my uncle.
  • Hey Ali, they WILL check the info at Target.  We got a gift in the mail that came from Target's distribution center that had no name on it.  My mom called customer service and was able to track it down.

We had one mystery gift from the actual wedding.  We looked over our guestbook/picture frame thing and was actually able to figure out who it was by cross-elimination.

  • I'm just wondering though...if it wasn't ordered online, is there any way for them to tell?
  • If it was bought off your registry, they might?  I'm really not sure.

It doesn't hurt to check. We had some problems with people buying stuff from the registry but not giving the registry printout to the cashier for scanning, so there was no "registry record" of the gift. But it's worth a call to find out.
