So, our receptionist kind of really sucks. We've been trying to work with her and get her to, oh, do her job... but she is kind of resistant. Last week I told her no more personal Internet use (I found out she was surfing FB, babycenter, CL, wedding websites, etc...) because she wasn't getting her duties done.
Today, only 2 work days after I told her no more- and guess what?! She was researching Admin Assistant jobs on Craigslist! She looked at more than 15 listings... WTH is she thinking- maybe she's trying to get us to fire her so she can collect unemployment... not sure... but seriously?!
So tomorrow is the beginning of the end with her- we're going to make the job really hard so she just quits... give her too many duties and get her to just leave so we don't have to fire her- she can fire herself! Fun times.
Re: Are people REALLY this dumb?!
If she is fired she could not collect unemployment. As long as it was properly documented what she was doing wrong and when, there wouldn't be any issues even if she tried to fight it. Your boss should just fire her instead of trying to get her to quit. There are so many qualified and good workers out there right now trying to find a job. Why play games with her?
Really?! I thought you had to pay unemployment if they got fired-period. That gives me hope!
The big problem is that they like her as far as dealing with patients goes. Patients like her, therefore in their mind they should keep her. BUT she can't do her normal daily duties- like check voicemail (to see if new patients called to schedule appointments), or clean the office, or write down if someone paid or didn't pay on that specific day. It is driving me bonkers because I have to pick up her slack when I get in.
I have wanted her gone for a while, but they've been dragging their feet. I hope that yesterday was just an eye opener for them and that they have the sense to actually do away with her today... they were considering it last night, but they also said that with the marketer that they kept on way too long.
OH, and we're planning to talk to her this afternoon and ask her why she is so unhappy with us. She has been miserable since we told her she can't use the Internet for personal purposes... she sulks and doesn't really make eye contact... and last week she told me "I didn't realize how good I had it at my last job." So we're going to basically give her an ultimatum- the "we don't want to hold you back" speech, then if she wants to stay, force her to step up her level of work.
What baffles us is her last job LOVED her. She hadn't worked for them for a year because she had a baby- but they wanted her back so badly and couldn't have better things to say about her... part of me thinks they are thinking of the wrong person, but her name isn't common, so that isn't likely.
