Whats bugs you.............
in the world today about something that makes you hmmmm? If that makes sense.
What bugs me is that people call Obama the first African-American president. He is not ALL black. His mother was white and his father was black (from Africa). Why can't they get that straight. It just really bugs me.
Re: Whats bugs you.............
Hmm...well my husband is 50% Greek (his dad is 100%) with a mixed heritage from his mom, but I still says he's Greek when someone asks. Is that wrong? I mean, he's definitely Greek, just not 100%.
I think 50% of one type of heritage is enough to call oneself that. My H is 50% Puerto Rican and 50% Vincentian (Caribbean islander). At any time he might refer to himself as one or the other of these. On most forms, he'll refer to himself as bi-racial or multi-racial.
I think it is fine to refer to Obama as AA or black. The world perceives him that way; the same is true of Halle Berry, who is also black-white bi-racial.
Bi racial. That was the world I was looking for. I understand where everyone is coming from, It's just one of those things that bug me.
I agree, and he is certainly the first president with African American heritage.
I think finding third, fourth, etc. generation Americans that are 100% of their heritage is becoming more rare. In my great-grandparents generation I think it was more common to find full Irish, German, whatever because they were still the first or second generation of immigrants.
As for little things that bug me...well, they are probably too numerous to list, but here are a few:
-My current work (and this entails a lot)
-People who drive the same speed next to me on the freeway, this is especially egregious when I have to turn off my cruise control because of it
-Whenever I'm about to do a load of laundry and my husband announces that he needs to do laundry
I agree with everything. The driving thing is super annoying and the laundry thing drives me crazy. I will be doing laundry and Mike will be like is so and so being washed? If not, can you wash it?
My cat does this too! Typically she'll puke on one of the bathmats, right next to the vinyl flooring in the bathroom. But I love her so much that it doesn't really bug me.
Simba actually threw up on the bathroom floor the other day. I was so happy and so much easier to clean up. But still it's blah!
