potential credit card fraud!

yesterday dh & i got to eat lunch together b/c he had a meeting where i work and when we went to pay for our lunch, our CC was declined. so we call the company and they had put it on a hold because a company (big sky decor - http://bigskydecor.com/ - which per the website is a new e-commerce business that specializes in western and lodge furniture and decor) had charged $.01 to it last week and then refunded it right away. our CC company suspected they had charged a minimal amount like that to see if it was a valid CC and then usually after that they will start fraudulently charging lots to the CC!! thing is, i never saw that charge on my CC so i would have never known (and i check our online account every other day or so)... i know that netflix (per their website) apparently charges $.01 to the CC they have on file then refund it just to make sure it's a working CC but i've never seen that charge either ......

anywho, glad our CC company put a hold on our card - now they're closing that # down and issuing us new cards, which is kind of a pain b/c that's the card with the most cashback rewards so we use it more often but that's ok.

isnt that scary though?!

have you ever had a situation similar to this of credit card fraud, etc?

Wow, thats crazy- but glad your CC company is looking out for you!

I had some problems with paypal once...someone was using skype with my account.

  • Whoah... glad the CC company caught it and took care of it quickly!

I've never had that happen, but our CC was declined yesterday at the AT&T store when we reserved my new iPhone. We semi-freaked out considering it has a balance of like $7 right now, but came to found out it was due to AT&T's server crash from the overload of iPhone 4 reservations, so it happened to everyone. :-)

  • I'm so glad they caught that for you. I definitely am glad I have fraud protector on my credit card - they've called often if they see something suspicious, though it's always been me gone away for a weekend or something!
  • that is crazy lucky they caught it! i've had it happen numerous times so annoying but at least i haven't had to fight w/ credit card companies!
  • Wow!  I'm impressed they caught that!  We've gotten called before when our CC company suspected something when we bought a big ticket item...like when we bought a $300 camera while in Hawaii.
