Wow. LOTS have been going on lately. I have been lurking on here and posting from my phone when I can...we have had A LOT happen in the past week and a half.
1. Steve graduated from the College of Engineering at OSU!! WOO!! I am sooooooo proud of him! He has been working on his bachelor's degree for 10 years now...started in Nebraska, then a community college in CA, then studied abroad in Spain, then to Ohio at a community college (where we met) then OSU to finish his degree...he doesn't know what to do with himself now!! haha.
2. We found out last week that the position Steve was suppose to start at an engineering consulting firm in Columbus (he worked there off and on during his time at OSU) on July 5th is not happening. Because one of their major accounts is "restructing" right now, the firm has had to cut employees down to 32 hour work weeks so they do not have to lay anyone off, so they cannot bring anyone in at this time. Such a bummer...but....we have chosen to use the opportunity to relocate back to our home town (2 hours NE of Cbus) to be closer to family!
3. On Friday, I had an interview with a school district in Canton, Ohio...then Monday I had my second interview with them and first interviews with 2 other districts...Tuesday, I got a call from the Superintendent's office at the Canton district and was asked to take the position...after talking to Steve, I took the job!!! We're moving!
4. Since we decided to make the move (about a week ago), we have been calling TONS of rental properties/owners to find a house to live in. We decided we definitely need to rent for at least a year while we get established. Everytime I called a place, we would find it out was already rented...bummer. When I interviewed with a local Educational Service Center on Monday one of my former supervisors jokingly told me she had a house for rent if we were interested. I just started bawling. It was such an overwhelming day, and I could not believe what she was telling me. Wednesday we went to look at the house...it is in our price range, the number of bedrooms is perfect and it has a huge fenced back yard for Sophie. The only issue we have is that a couple called before we knew about the house, so they are looking at it today. It sounds like the couple is only wanting something for a few months while their in another town sells, so we shall see! We find out tonight/tomorrow if we get it! Plus, there is the potential to buy!! My friend/supervisor is willing to take 200/month from our rent to set aside to help us with a down payment in another year or two...we already have 10,000 set aside, so this would be amazing!!!
5. Steve got a phone call yesterday from my uncle who sells parts to places that hire electrical engineers. It turns out, one of the engineers announced that they are retiring yesterday. The company is not sure as to how they are going to approach this, but they want Steve's resume (they have already met him a little while back). Talk about timing!!
Last night we got back to Columbus after this whirlwind. It has been INSANE. I wrote up my letters of resignation that I will be hand delivering today. It does make me sad to leave my current district because it has been such an amazing experience there, but I am truly looking forward to being near our families. We are heading back up tomorrow so Steve can hand deliver his resume to my uncle's sister company and for Steve's graduation party at his parents'. Fingers and toes crossed that we hear good news about this house!!
If you made it thorugh this whole post, then
and
for you!! Oh, and for the mommies-to-be, you can have some
!!
Re: Some news (kinda long)!
Wow, that's exciting!!! If you had been interested in Pittsburgh, I could have tried to get Steve into Westinghouse in the electrical engineering.
But since you already got a job and Steve has a potential one, so it sounds like you are all set.
(BTW we will be there some weekend this year because I got football HOF tickets for Dave for Christmas last year- they're good all year this year.)
Sending vibes your way for the house to rent!!!
