  • we have two right now but the plan is to pay these off then drive them til they die and all future cars will be paid for in cash i hope! hubby drove his 1970 ford pickup with no power steering or AC until last year when he finally couldn't stand it anymore so we decided to take on a second car payment Smile

my cousin was making FIVE car payments up until a few months ago. one for her, her hubby, his two boys, and her niece (who she pretty muchly raised). isn't that crazy?? they only have 1 now but madness!

i wish you could have anonymous responses to posts cause i'd be curious to see people share their budget break downs. those are my fave posts on MM Smile but i'm always too chicken to share ours!

  • I voted two, just to be fair.  Today we only have DH's truck payment, but we are in the midst of looking for a car for DSS.  I will drive that for the year that it takes to pay it off, and then give it to him and pick up a car payment for myself.  That way a car for DSS will have zero impact on our monthly budget and savings.

DH's truck payment is a recent thing.  It's a 30-month note.  He plans to keep the truck for much longer, though.  His white pickup before that was 11-years old and had been ordered from the factory by DH.

  • Oh man, now I am wistful remembering how nice it was to have NO car payment. When our old car kicked the bucket, we had not had a car payment in years (it was 14 years old). The car repairs were draining us too much, though. Now we have one payment that is very manageable and just the one car between us, but we love our car and will drive it until it dies too.

We have my car and DH's motorcycle.  That's the main two.  We just bought DH a brand new truck and trailer.  However, his work pays him out the wazoo for mileage and that check more than covers his trailer and truck.  It's still hard too see that much money go away.  Everything will be paid off within 2 years though, so that's good.

just curious - what do your dh do that his work covers a trailer? my dh would be so jealous.

ha.  He's an oil field consultant.  He's on a job OOT for about 3-5 days a week and then has anywhere from 2 days to a week off in between.  So he lives in the trailer :-)   They pay him $100 for every day he's on location with the trailer, so really that trailer is making us money.

  • Right now, we have no car payment, but in a year I would like to get an LR4 so that would change things!  And hopefully we can get DH a nicer car, too, but buy it in cash.
