Has anyone purchased from these farms? I've been reading up on them but not sure how they work. If anyone has bought from them with advice would be great.
TIA
Re: CSA Farms
Do you mean getting the packages where you get a weekly basket of fresh produce from a local farm? Sometimes they come from 1 farm, sometimes multiple farms.
Or the farms where you pay in advance and are basically funding the production of whatever they are growing? If the crop is good you get a lot. If it is poor you don't get that much.
Let me know which option you are looking into and I can help.
I have heard of both, but I'm thinking of leaning towards buying the baskets. I just don't know much of either and where they are located.
Thanks Jen so much for the help.
I have heard good things from people who have gotten the baskets. It may be too late to sign up so keep that in mind. They only have a set amount of "space" each year and sometimes they are sold out in the new year.
Things to keep in mind:
- you get what they pick that week. So something you may get some awesome stuff and other times you may end up with some weird combinations.
- you pay even if you are on vacation and won't be getting your basket. Find out what your options on. Some let you give it to someone else or donate it to a food bank.
- do you have to pick up the basket at a cental location or is it delivered to you?
- what besides produce do you get? (eggs, honey, baked goods, herbs)
Here is a great site to find a CSA near you.
