MIL's Results

Thank you all from the bottom of my heart for all the well wishes yesterday.  Everyone was pretty upset with the news yesterday morning.  That is until the hospital brought in a specialist from the City of Hope (A local prestigious cancer research center).  He explained as much as he could to my MIL & FIL.

At this point they're positive it's some form of cancer, possibly lung.  From his observation of her, he doesn't think it's advanced or that it's not treatable.  In fact by the way she gradually got sick with what they thought was pneumonia, it could have possibly been around for up to a year undetected.

Over the next couple of days they'll be administering more tests to find out if it is in fact lung cancer or if it's spread there from somewhere else in her body.  Today they did a biopsy of her uterus and they'll do one more of her lungs.  Yesterday they also drained 600 cc's of fluid from her lungs that immediately improved any pain and breathing difficulties.  Hopefully the fluid will also tell the doctors exactly what it is, but she has to wait 5 days for those results.

If it is lung cancer, they'll start chemo next week.  The type of chemo for it will more than likely wipe everything out including the additional spots on her liver.

Last night the brothers stopped by at about 10:00 pm and were told the news.  Everyone is very hopeful, including the doctors, so it's been such a relief for my in-laws.  Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers still.  They can use 'em.

Re: MIL's Results

  • Cindy, again I am so sorry to hear this.  Sending tons of T&P to everyone and hoping whatever it is is caught and treated quickly.  HUGS.
  • I sounds like they caught it quickly and I hope they can get rid of it.  I will be keeping your MIL and your family in my T&P.

  • Cindy I'm so sorry to hear this, but if there is a bright light it's that the doctors sound very hopeful & that's really good news. I'll keep you all in my T&P's. ((hugs))
  • Cindy I am so sorry. I have to say it makes me much more comfortable that she is at COH. At least she is getting some of the best care possible in LA and they will be as proactive as possible.

My thoughts exactly.  Nothing more comforting than having it in our own backyard.

  • Continued vibes and prayers.
  • That sucks.  But I will say, Lung Cancer if caught and treated is very cureable/liveable.  I'll send lots of vibes and prayers.
  • I'm sorry your family is having to go through this.  But I'm glad that there seems to be a positive outcome for the future.  We are all here for you!
  • Lots of continued :::vibes::: for your MIL and family!
