Other California Brides HELP!
I went to the SS office today to change my name. I wanted to get rid of my middle name and change my maiden name to my middle name. So I would be :
First Maiden Husband'sname
I was told I couldn't do that bc it wasn't on my marriage license and that I needed to change my name at the courthouse. I was in shock and started crying, but I should have asked to talk to someone else.
Has anyone else in California moved their maiden name to their middle name without problems? Should I call and ask again before I go to the courthouse (which apparently takes another month to do).
Re: Other California Brides HELP!
I think it is a California issue because on California marriage license there is a place to change your name once you are married. I got married in Nevada, and there was NO place to change my name on it. It only wanted my legal name at the time of getting my license.
They guy at SS said it had to be printed on my marriage license and they didn't do that in Nevada.
I was hoping he was just misinformed, but the more I google, I think he is right. If I had been married in California it wouldn't have been an issue, but there wasn't anything I could have added to my Nevada marriage license.
Thanks for the help!

The Benhams: Married May 1st, 2010!
I moved my maiden name to my middle name without any problem. On the SS name change application, there was a space for my current name, and then a place for the name as I wanted it written (new first, middle, last). I had no problems changing it. Sorry you're not having any luck!
