Re: eek!

  • Yikes! I'm dreading mine... We've had to keep it going almost 24/7 because it's been so dang humid all night long!
  • OMG!!!!

When we lived in the Apt during Christmas one year it was over 130 bucks.  We had 3 extra people....used more hot water etc.  I was not happy.  In the summer ours is always cheaper...no A/C.

Do you turn it off while you are at work?

  • Although, most households in Houston love a $130 a/c bill. Most people's average over $300 here in the summer. But I think our highest was just $120, which I got asked "do you not use a/c at all??"

this month, zach's working nights, so he sleeps during the day and likes the A/C on... but i'm going to talk to him about maybe using the fan instead.. whew!

or keeping it at like 72 while he is sleeping. I am scared of what ours is going to be.

  • Mines on 78 it was still $98.00 the joy of owning a house bills a are more expensive!
  • I'm dreading mine also.  We did pretty well last year over the summer, but I feel like it's been hard to find that good place that allows us not to be hot all the time, but also to not have a high bill.  I think I walked around in a sports bra and undies most of the summer last year though.  lol  So, we'll see what happens.  I love the spring and fall months.  Summer and winter suck for electric bills.
  • we do the budget plan and pay the same every month, which works well for us since our whole house is electric
  • Pfff ha ha thats funny! Ours is normally 150.00.  During the summer months its usually 250-300.00

  • Ah, so crazy! I can't imagine.
We don't have a/c cause our house has hot water heat. which means no duct work for a/c. We found a kind of a/c we can get... which will cost us about 11k-12k. We were suppose to get it this spring but that hasn't happened. And to be honest, its almost the end of june and we haven't been uncomfortable in this house yet! The old place we were living at, I'd lay on the hardwood floor to watch tv in a sports bra and shorts to stay cool. No issues here and the house is 3-4 times as big! If we make it this summer ok, I might not get it! I like my $30 something electric bills lol.

But lets discuss heat bills in the winter. Those make me cringe.

Tammy, you only pay $30?!?!?  And I'm surprised you've been ok in this.  Our house must just keep the heat in, it gets so hot if we don't turn on the air (thermostat will get to 85 and then it takes FOREVER to cool down.)

I'm dreading our bill, too- we've had the air on more than normal just because our house is on the market.

  • Wow! You guys all have crazy low electric bills. Our entire house runs on electric and isnt insulated very well. In the winter time with a wood fireplace going our highest bill last winter was $670. I sat in the middle of my bedroom floor and cried. We get our power through a co-op and the town has to get their cut too so they charge a percentage of the total bill. We are now on a budget plan that we pay $345 a month regardless, then it sorts itself out in May. Our main problem is our heat ducts under the house werent hooked up the right way and it wasted a lot of heat. We have since fixed it, but our lowest bill this year was $180 with no heat or ac. I would love to have a $150 all the time.
