Question/ Discussion Starter

Did anyone else have a *different* start to their marriage?

    What do you mean?

  • Tritto. This post has tons of potential.

ETA: I read your bio, it appears as if you are speaking about your injury. Good luck on your recovery.

  • My marriage started differently because of my injury.  I had to live at home with my parents for 2 months!  I want to find out if you have started your marriage in an unconventional way.  What kinds of unexpected things did you encounter once you were newly married?
  • Ours was pretty normal. The only thing I can think of was that we had two houses. DH stayed at his house once or twice a week until it sold about 3-4 months after we got married just to make sure the house looked lived in and to keep an eye on it.

if you don't mind me asking, how did you injure yourself?
  • I think every marriage is different, and the idea of a 'normal' marriage only leads to comparing your relationship to everyone elses. Even though DH and I barely see each other some weeks (between my school schedule and his crappy work schedule) I still consider us to have a very stable marriage. It makes me value the times we spend together more since us having an entire day with each other is few and far between. Growing up, my dad worked out of town 4 days a week and was home 3; I don't think spending time apart makes your marriage "weird", you just do what you have to do.

  • My husband tore both his Achilles two months after we got married and had to have surgery to repair them. He was unable to walk for 2 months and my MIL stayed with us the whole time. It was definitely a "test" of sorts.

  • I started mine living in my parents' basement apartment during the week so that I wouldn't have a 2+-hr-each-way commute from where DH and I live into downtown ATL.  Not fun only seeing DH on weekends.  Thank goodness that's over!
