My cat has had a couple more episodes where she's laying there panting, eyes wide open. After a while, she will stop panting & be fine. Does anyone have a clue what might be causing this?
Re: Cat owners
Could that happen if the dog harasses her too much? Normally she just jumps out of his reach when she's done playing.
Is she responsive when she's like this, or is it more like she's in a trance?
My first thought was some sort of epilepsy. (My parents had a dog with epilepsy when I was growing up.) But if she's responsive, then it wouldn't be that.
What's she like before she does this? Is she playing or running around? Is there anything that would have freaked her out?
Yes this might be the problem. Simba does that when we go to vet - he pants and makes noises because he doesn't like going there. After a while, he will calm down.
Kasa, I'm not really sure if you would say she's responsive. Her eyes are open & she is aware of what's going on around her. I've never actually been home when she goes into the episodes. As far as I know, she is just laying down, but then she does that alot anyway, lol.
Charity, thanks so much for sharing that! I feel better knowing I'm not the only one dealing with this!
A couple of my cats do that when they get too hot or play too hard
Mine too! It was so weird the first time I saw it, but now it's "normal" around here.
