Chicago suggestions for a friend...

Hey gals...

for those of you who have been to Chicago... if you were only there for a 3 day wkend, what would you think the top most important things to do/eat would be?

Background: One of my BM's got married the year before I did.  One of her (crazy) BM's backed out of her wedding right after her bridal shower and another friend stepped in to take her place (the orig BM had a fairly large dress ordered and the 'replacement BM' was like a size 2 so she had to get it super altered...)  ANYWAY, this Replacement BM wrote a 'fictional' story about it, sent it in and won an award and invited the bride and her DH to her award's thing that is in Chicago.

One of the things they are doing is going to see Chicago play the Phillies..., but any other suggestions would be great! TIA!

Re: Chicago suggestions for a friend...

  • We are Chicago tourists who go about 3x a year for various reasons.

Well a Cubs game would be top on my list but that's b/c I looooooove Cubs games and hot dogs and beers.

     Navy Pier is fun.

Shopping on Mich. Avenue is fun if you have the money to do so.

The Shedd Aquarium is okay, I liked it but DH gets bored.

PIZZA!  That's a must.  I will let one of the true Chicago girls address the best place as I like all of the Chicago "number ones."

If she's into shopping there are some good outlets outside of Chicago too.

Suggest comfy walking shoes and taking public transportation - best way to get around and its not too difficult to figure out.

Warning No formatter is installed for the format bbhtml
  • lakefront boat cruise or river architectural cruise (Wendella is one of the companies I can think of)

If they are art types - the Art Institute

Grant Park - check online for events

Millenium Park - check online for events

    Shed Aquarium

    Adler Planetarium

    Museum of Science and Industry

    Field Museum

Navy Pier (at night is fun - Saturday fireworks)

Mag Mile for Shopping and Water Tower Place

Oak Street Beach if they like beaches

Lincoln Park Zoo (free or super cheap)  - also at the Zoo area is the Peggy Notebart Nature Museum with live walk through Butterfly Room

Pizza from Giordanos or Ginos, Mexican from Lalo's, Harry Carry's, Weber Grill, Gibson's for steak, ***'s Last resort (near navy pier i think), Ed Debevicks (50s theme where they are rude on purpose...so weird, but so fun - diner food), Rainbow Cone for ice cream, Portillos for hot dogs or roast beef...mmm I miss Chicago food!

Cubs tickets may be hard to come by and/or extremely expensive...a White Sox game would be more attainable
