You can use the sprinkler's 2 times a week but hand water anytime.

If it rains we don't water that often.

It depends on the time of year. We also have St. Augustine grass, and here's what the lawn guys who just did a consultation for us said about watering:
Watering schedule for the year:
-- January and February: Lawn is dormant, so only 2 minutes of watering needed once a week. No watering is needed if it rains.
-- March: Water for 3 to 8 minutes once a week
-- April: Water 8 to 12 minutes once a week
-- May: Water for 12-20 minutes (sunnier spots get more) every five days
-- June to August: Water twice a week, 18-20 minutes.
-- September: Water for 12-20 minutes (sunnier spots get more) every five days
-- October: Water 8 to 12 minutes once a week
-- November:Water for 3 to 8 minutes once a week
-- December: Lawn is dormant, so only 2 minutes of watering needed once a week. No watering is needed if it rains.
No "never" option?
Our lawn only gets water when I dump out Camy's water table or we play in the sprinkler. I'm amazed its as green as it is out front.

Ditto. We don't water, but we rent, plus we live on a ranch and only have wild grass, our yard is almost entirely shaded and we've been getting a decent amount of rain out at our place. Even with no watering, the yard looks really bad only a week after DH mows.
LOL, I need a "not often enough" option! I answered other.
If I weren't so lazy, I'd water twice a week, on our allowed days. I have half St. Augustine and half Bermuda. I'm trying to get the St. Augustine to take over, but I don't water enough for that. I've been good about hand watering my new flowers and transplanted grass daily (except when it rains), but the rest of the yard is only alive because of the rain this year.
