  • How did you learn to cook/bake? From doing it with my mom & aunts growing up.  I continue to learn from cookbooks, blogs and cooking shows.  I just subscribed to "Cook's Illustrated" which I am really excited about because it really delves in to technique.

What level of cook/baker do you consider yourself? Cooking I'd say intermediate.  Baking I'd say intermediate to advanced.

What was your worst cooking/baking disaster? I honestly can't think of one.  Even dishes I've messed up haven't been total disasters.

What area of your cooking/baking would you like to improve? I'd really like to improve my knife skills, and like pp's have said I'd like to be able to just come up with recipes on my own.

How many dinners a week do you/DH cook at home on average? Right now our living/working situation is unusual, so I'm only cooking 2-3 nights per week.  When our life is normal, I cook 6-7 nights per week.  (That is, if you count stuff like grilled cheese & tomato soup or breakfast-for-dinner as cooking.)

What level of cook/baker do you consider yourself? Intermediate

What was your worst cooking/baking disaster? Icebox Cake-  Never again will MIL say "you can't mess this up".  I burned the pudding so bad DH was still cleaning the pan 2 months later.  And my poor father ate his entire piece to try to make me feel better about all of it!

What is one of your favorite recipes that you are looking forward to making?  WW Slow Cooker Moussaka- recipe will be posted in my blog soon.

  • How did you learn to cook/bake?  Mostly from trial and error and from watching cooking shows.  I remember as a child asking my mom NOT to bake cookies anymore because they didn't taste good.  Ouch.

What level of cook/baker do you consider yourself?  Cook, I guess I'd still be considered a beginner because I'm totally recipe dependent.  I'd say I'm an intermediate baker though.

What was your worst cooking/baking disaster?  I can't think of some out and out disasters but there were a good handful of times where whatever I made just didn't taste good.

What area of your cooking/baking would you like to improve?   I wish I could be more adventurous with my ingredients, but my taste is very bland so i don't see that happening very much.

What is one of your favorite recipes that you made recently?  Post it if possible  It was a clean eating version of sweet and sour chicken.  It was very tasty.  I can't find the recipe online anymore though!  I think it was one of the H & Fers.

What is one of your favorite recipes that you are looking forward to making?  Post it if possible  The clean eating almond chicken.

  • How did you learn to cook/bake? Helping my mom

What level of cook/baker do you consider yourself? Intermediate

What was your worst cooking/baking disaster? Haha, nothing comes to mind although I have certainly made recipes that I would never need to make again. I'm kind of stubborn, so I usually end up eating the things that I made even if I don't really like them.

What area of your cooking/baking would you like to improve?  I'd like to get better at grilling and cooking meat; DH currently does most of the grilling, but I'd like to learn how to do that too. I can cook meat in the oven or on the stove, just not really on the grill.

How many dinners a week do you/DH cook at home on average? We eat at home 6-7 nights per week, although during the school year we sometimes eat things like Ramen noodles, Hot Pockets, etc. so that's not really cooking... Now that it's summer and we're not in classes, we're doing real cooking more.

Who is the primary cook in your house? It fluctuates. I enjoy cooking more than DH, but he'll cook if I'm going to be getting home late.

What is your favorite kitchen gadget? My Kitchen Aid mixer

What is one of your favorite recipes that you made recently?  Post it if possible  It's from a cookbook I got recently called How to Cook Everything (Mark BIttman)--the chicken roasted in butter or olive oil.
