@ check in

Busy week for the pregnant ladies of E08/A06. I'm looking forward to seeing more pics of baby TTT & SBP!

How's everyone doing? After some setbacks, H & I are officially TTC. I'm not charting for now--just GOF-ing around the right time.

Question of the day: Do you/will you/did you give up caffeine & alcohol during the 2WW?

Re: @ check in

  • YAY on TTC!!! :)

I did not give up alcohol during the 2WW. ?I followed the "drink 'til it's pink" model! ?I celebrated my birthday with several drinks a few days before I got my positive result.

I cut back on my caffeine consumption a bit a few months before we started TTC for general health reasons.?

It's the 2 Week Wait-- the time after you ovulate but before your positive or negative pregnancy test.

I plan on giving up caffeine & booze entirely after getting pregnant, but it's hard to cut back altogether, especially considering that who knows how long we might be TTC.

  • Yay for TTC!  That's so exciting.

NO WAY did I give up booze or caffeine while TTC.  Nine months is long enough...  and I didn't even give up caff while pg, just cut back some.

    Good luck!

  • first you have to listen to my charting speech. Angel

If you aren't gonna chart PLEASE don't do the estimated calculations by what week it is. Most people don't ovulate right in the middle of the month - even if they have a 28 or so day cycle. Charting has shown me that I usually ovulate around CD17 or 18. Others ovulate CD12 or 13. Also, if you are coming off BCPs, you might not ovulate at all your first cycle (like me) or for a few months. Or, you might not get your AF for a few months. And you wont have any idea why that is because you aren't charting.

I am all for "just having fun", believe me! But if you wanna get into trying to time your efforts, its best to chart!

Anyhow, yay for TTC! We will officially "start" in a week or so if we don't get a divorce from our fight last night. Confused

ps - I saw a post from TTT on E08 last night. she crazy!

Glad you asked first bunny, I was scratching my head when I first read the top posts.

  • crap I forgot to answer your questions.

I would give up caffine now - not totally but remove it from your daily routine. As soon as you get your BFP your gonna wanna go cold turkey anyways so avoid getting those headaches by cutting back now.

Alcohol - the same. the only reason I am not saying to cut out either from your life 100% before your BFP is that if it takes a while to get pg you are really gonna feel deprived. I ditto the drink til its pink! its just more practical!

  • Oh and yay for starting TTC for you!
  • Good luck and have fun TTC!?

When we first started TTC I didn't give up alcohol or coffee. After I had a miscarriage I cut it all out because m/c sucks and I didn't want to be contributing anything towards that happening again. Looking back, I think it's better that I quit before resuming TTC. Caffeine withdrawal combined with early pregnancy wouldn't be too fun. Once morning sickness was in swing I didn't even like the smell of coffee. I just got back to having a small cup in the morning since the baby is almost done. Maybe it will condition the kid so I don't have to give it up for breastfeeding :)

  • yay ttc'ers!

I gave up alcohol, but not caffeine during the 2ww and pregnancy.  Crazy week for us, huh?   pts and sst in a one-two punch.

  • I've been TTC for a few months and I give up caffeine during the 2WW. I don't drink alcohol that much anyway but if I was someplace where it was served I'd probably have a glass. I ditched the caffeine for two reasons - b/c my doctor said it inhibited the absorption of vitamins and b/c I'm completely addicted to it. I use the 2WW as a test period to get on the wagon and have some self control. I figure if I can cut myself off when I'm "allowed" then I can do the rest of the months ok.

    Edited

  • I know it's discussed all too often on here but I have to recommend Taking Charge of Your Fertility for TTC-ers.  I learned a lot from it.

Good luck to all of you! Wink

  • No, I wouldn't give up caffeine or alcohol during the 2WW. For that matter, I have no plans to ever give up caffeine. I NEED my morning cup of coffee. I can't imagine being pregnant and going through caffeine withdrawals at the same time. That would not be pretty.

  • yay brookles and caden! how exciting.

i'd expect i'll give up alcohol during the 2WW, but caffeine might be too tough. i honestly, don't think i can give it up during pregnancy at all. but i'll cross that bridge when and if we ever get to it.

i'm feeling majorly frustrated about our TTC "plans". the more i think about it, the more it seems we will have to put it off longer and longer. we want to take a giant adventure-filled vacation before we TTC. we'd also like to make some improvements to the house first. oh yeah, those things cost money. while we have plenty of savings and have planned for both a trip and the home improvements, i'm skittish as hell, with the the economy in the tank and all. and then there's my job. i desperately need a new one. and does it really make sense to TTC when i'm trying to find a job? sigh. so when we start is anybody's guess. sorry, for my whine, just had to get that out.

  • Good luck this month, TTC-ers!

Lyss, didn't you say you'd applied for a transfer!

And vent away, gypsy. I hope you and H are able to work out your finances, and that you can get a better job. Are you looking currently?

  • yep, i'm looking. but there's little out there. so we'll see. thanks for the kind words.

Can I join your whine party?! I've been reconsidering TTC, gypsy, and I'm totally in the same boat as you. DH & I want to take another trip, but then I think I'll always want to take "one last big trip" so I just need to get over it. My DH works for a company that is borderline bankrupt and if he gets laid off we'll have to move. Selling our house will be a PITA, so I think, really it isn't the time to be stressed out about a kid. ... But b/c I don't know if he'll lose his job I hate to postpone stuff since the clock is ticking... *sigh*

  • ugh, don't even get me started on timing. We just paid off a lot of debt (had too) so while thats great, we have no savings. We can easily build it up again, don't get me wrong, but it still feels bad. I'm turning 29 in like 10 days (acck!) and I'm just scared of waiting too long. Not even necessarily for this one, but for how much longer that pushes back the next kid, kwim?

    ugh.

  • I forgot to say I'm definitely excited for the TTCers!

Still no TTC for the next 3-4 years for us.  I'm feeling at peace with that right now, so it works.

  • Finances are always scary. Sugr, we are in a similar situation--just paid off a lot of debt but not much savings. However, we have the potential to save a lot-- which we're working on-- and my job is stable. So, we really could've gone either way, but we're ready so there ya go.
  • sugar, caden... thanks for feeling my timing issues. lord knows i ain't getting no younger. then again, all my friends with kids are constantly assuring me that there will never be a "perfect" time to start. so really, who knows.
  • yeah. I totally agree that you should try to prepare and put money aside and what not. We wanna save for their college too so thats another thing. I am not gonna suggest that someone should definitely TTC in my situation, lol. If I waited to save up what we had before the pay off - it would hold up TTC a few years, and even longer if something else random happens. Example A: our front tree died - so thats 1k right there to get that monster removed. So then I was like, well, lets hold off til we have just "a bit more" in savings. and Then I was like - why? If its a true disaster it wont help anyways, and what if I don't even get KUed right away? What if it takes me 2 years? How much of a dumbass am I gonna feel like then? Plus, as long as we aren't TTC, there isn't a present reason to not waste $$ on going out to eat and what not - not enough of a reason to get DH 100% on board with anyways.

  • We've been officially trying for the last few months.  I've got some challenges so I'm trying to be realistic about the odds.  I have not given up either caffiene or alcohol during this time, and though I drink both fairly often, I'm an "everything in moderation" gal.  Obviously I'll quit both if I get pregnant.  I don't see myself having caffeine withdrawals so I'm not too worried about that.
