Hi all, we will be visiting NYC soon and want to eat the stereotypical foods you hear about. So on our short list: pizza, pretzels, cheesecake and hot dogs. Where are the best places for these items and do you have any other favorites that we MUST try? TIA LV<><
Re: NYC Food Faves-Help Rec
I'd suggest starting with the posts above "Visiting NYC?" first. A bunch of nesties have a series of suggestions of all sorts of food, and other things to do.
Enjoy your visit
Amy
yeah most pizza on Bleecker St/ Little Italy is good! I like Sal's a lot too http://salslittleitaly.com/
Another place I would say you must try is Thunder Jackson's for the Dirty Burger and fries...amazing.
And I always take friends to Crumbs for a cupcake if they are tourists:)
I prefer hotdogs at a baseball stadium. Citifield or Yankee Stadium will do. I do not do "dirt dogs" from a street vendor. They just taste bland to me.
For pizza, unfortunately I think the outer borough places are much better than anything in Manhattan I've had. John's in the Village is good. Even better: Nick's in Forest Hills, Queens; L&B Spumoni Gardens in Gravesend, Brooklyn.
There are some amazing street vendors, however. Some are real chefs who specialize in cheap, but authentic street food. Many are in the outer boroughs, but there are a few good ones in Manhattan too. My H swears by this Kebab cart in Midtown west (in the following article). Look for the constant long line of people waiting patiently for their food.
I have been meaning to check out that burrito cart in Soho. Mmmmm.
