Ask a question

Any questions about what is going on around town, how to cook something, how to do something.

Here is mine. What is going in the former Fresh Market in the Target Plaza on 28th street

Has anyone booked a Mexican all-inclusive vacation online?  I found some good deals online, but am cautious about booking something out of the country.  I've only gone through travel agents before.  Do I really have anything to worry about?  I feel stupid for asking this.  I'm basically a travel virgin.

  • I have a question.

How do you light the charcoal on a grill?  I was having some major cussing issues last night.  I did everythign I could think of to get the coals going.  I finally had to call the guys next door to come over and do it for me.

DId you use lighter fluid? DH always squirst lighter fluid all over it and then lights it in a few different spots. I say all of this from only observing, I have never tried it myself and for all I know you may have to chant something too as you are trying to light it!

I have, lots of times.  What website are you looking at?

  • I used a TA for our HM. I doubled checked the prices she got us and it was the same or cheaper on-line. I tried booking on-line myself but was quickly overwhlemed by all the choices. The nice thing about TAs is that they  do "Fam Tours." so they will go visit several resorts at once and know what they are talking about.

Now if you had a certain resort in mind or knew exactally what city you wanted to go, then I would say look into prices on-line. The only thing I would caution on is to double check to see if your package includes a transfer (transportation) from the airport to the resort.

  • Wop - I use tripadvisor a LOT for our vacation planning.  Usually the reviews on there are pretty reliable.

The prices on this site are cheaper than the TA's I've been in contact with by $200 or more.

I didn't think to look at reviews.  Duh.  I should go do that now.

This is exactly it.  A TA quoted a specific resort (one she suggeted), and I looked it up online, and found it cheaper by $200+.  And the hotel transfer is the thing I'm concerned about, I don't want to be stuck at the airport in Mexico needing a ride from a scary cab.  According to the online quote though, it does include airport transfers and all taxes.

You will be fine.  Allinclusiveoutlet.com is reputable.  Have a great trip!  I'm SO jealous.  I don't know when I get to take my next vacation.

I don't know that we're going quite yet.  I'm still trying to convince Nick to spend the money.   I want to take one last somewhat big vacation before we have kids.  Fingers crossed that I get a bonus and that's it's enough to spend on a vacation.

If you do end up with a package that doesn't include transportation to/from the airport, I can highly recommend Entertainment Plus. They are very reputable and gave us great service. A lot of ladies on the travel board here on TN recommended them to me and I was thankful for it.

I didn't have any lighter fluid, which I think was part of the problem.  I bought the charcoal that already has the fluid on it.  I tried everything I could think of.  I've noticed from my friends husbands -- you have to be drinking a miller lite.  Maybe that was my problem.

I have a weird base in the bottom of my grill, and those where the only ones that would ignite.  I'm thinking I have to use this grill for smoking, and not grilling.  I got it from a co-worker who was divorcing.  It was previously a gas grill, and her ex turned it into charcoal.

I would ask the TA if they can match the price you found online.  The worst they will do is tell you no, but they might do it and then you get the price you want and the service of a TA.

Laughing at the customer is in extremely poor taste, so hopefully they wouldn't do that.  I get asked a lot about matching prices and if I can't, I'll just launch into a schpeel about the higher level of service I offer.  I think that's the *worst* you would get.
