I'm hosting a 4th of July BBQ for some of the other football wives/Edmonton Friends, the guys have a game later in the day on that Sunday! We celebrate Canada Day here on July 1st, 4th of July is obviously not a Holiday. Since a few of us are American, I thought that this would be a fun BBQ idea. My Mom is sending me American Flag themed plates & napkins. My friend who is from Texas is also helping me plan. But I was hoping that you girls might have some ideas! There will be about 8-10 ladies and maybe a few kiddies. Maybe these questions will help:
What is your favorite 4th of July BBQ Food?
Do you know of any fun drink ideas that are red, white and blue?
Any other suggestions?

Re: 4th of July Ideas
Definitely have to have Brisket and Sausage. Hamburgers/Hot Dogs go over well. Potato Salad, Cole Slaw, deviled eggs, chips w/ salsa.
Alcoholic or non?
Glow sticks are great for the kids and a cheap way to accessorize any themed party.
Christmas lights are always good, if you can find them.
streams look good as decorations too

Yeah for celebrating! Last year we took thinly sliced beef and marinated it in Soyaki (a soy sauce/teriyaki (SP!) with sesame seeds) and put it on the bbq. It turned out amazing! The sweetness is offset my the saltiness and sliced thin made it almost like beef jerky.
This year I think I'm going to try my hand at layered cupcakes. I'll take white cake batter and divide it in thirds, then dye one part red, another blue then spoon each into the cupcake pan. I'll frost with white frosting and alternate with raspberries and blueberries on top.
Drinks, you could do something with blue curasao. There's a local drink here called a Blue Hawaiian that uses that with pineapple and coconut and a few other things and it's yummy. Or do a red sangria.
I was thinking about trying out this dessert---looks festive and yummy!http://thebridescafe.typepad.com/my_weblog/food_and_drink/
We drink these bomb pop martinis out and they are red white and blue if you layer it in.
I would just say BBQ and we usually make a white cake, frost it white, and use strawberries and blueberries to make a flag on top. Its cute!!

Hot dogs, hamburgers and steaks always go well at any BBQ. You may want some chicken legs or breasts for those who don't eat red meat.
I'm lost when it comes to drinks.
I do believe there are white cupcakes that have red and blue swirls inside and then you can put white frosting and red and blue sprinkles on top. BigVoice's cake sounds delicious and you girls are making us hungry with talk of brisket and stuff! lol
I agree with PP's, hot dogs, hamburgers, porkchops, etc. I also like to cut up veggies, brush them with olive oil and a little salt and pepper and grill them.
It's not exactly a drink, but what about red and blue adult jello? I used to get 99 bananas and mix with the blue jello, and use some sort of flavored vodka to go with the red jello (depending on the flavor).
Dessert: I think there are a lot of cool whip recipes that incorporate red, white, and blue into them.

I like to make this dessert call Pretzel Salad. It sounds weird but it really good. It is three layers: The crust is crushed pretzels with butter and sugar, the next layer is cool whip with cream cheese and sugar, and the top layer is strawberry jello with sliced strawberries.
