lurker - must have picture list

hi ladies. i sometimes lurk here because i'm not married yet =P

and now i need your help! i am sort of getting down to the wire - i leave NYC in 2 weeks and the wedding is in about 3.5. all these vendors keep asking me for all these things. i totally thought i was organized and on top of this, but uhhhh, not even close. and clearly, i should have thought about my pictures earlier.

so my question is:

what is/was your must have picture(s) for/from your wedding?

my brain is pretty much friend from all this thinking and planning!

any help is appreciated; thanks in advance :)

Re: lurker - must have picture list

  • Hey, love your siggy pic!  I have a collage that I made of some of my fave photos that turned into a must take list.  It's about 3/4 of the way down the page of my planning bio.  Not sure if it will help you though :)

  • I didn't end up making a list - I loved our photographer, and since he has a photojournalistic style, I decided just to leave it up to him. And he did a lot of the "standard" shots anyway - pics of our rings, my dress hanging in a window, etc. - without me having to ask.

That said, I do wish I'd mentioned one thing that I really wanted photos of, and that was our ring orb - I had it sitting on a table next to our invites but didn't specifically ask him to take pictures of it, and I suppose he probably looked at it and didn't know what it was going to be used for, so didn't think to take pictures of it. I really loved that thing (still do - we use it every day to hold our jewelry!) and I wish I'd said, "Oh and this thing is going to hold our rings - can we get a few pics of it?"

  • I made a list, but never even gave it to the photographer in the end.  I trusted him, and he got everything I wanted anyway.  I only ended up asking for one specific pic (us kissing on the beach with the setting sun as a sunburst between our lips), which he did beautifully.

  • Hey, I can't believe your day is coming up so soon! Very exciting!

If you want specific family pics, it helps to have one person in your family help to coordinate everyone to get together to take the photos (because the photographer doesn't know who your grandma, uncle, etc. is and also because it can get a little chaotic after the ceremony). I think this helps to save time too.

I think if you tell your photographer to get pics of all the details, they'll know to get pics of your jewelry, flowers, invites, tables, ceremony setup, escort cards, reception set up, etc. etc. You can specify that you want sunset pics or maybe a funny pic of you and FI. We had a ton of college friends at the wedding so we made sure they got a pic of all of us together. My list also included pics of me getting ready, of our feet/shoes, "first look" photos, pics of my veil covering both of us (i love these!), and we also had them get pics of almost all of our guests - I especially liked this because when I wrote the thank you cards, I included a picture of them at the wedding. I thought it was a nice personal touch and it was well received.

  • I made a list, but didn't really use it on the day of the wedding. We kind of just went with it and I threw a few suggestions on what I wanted and she did the rest. I was really pleased with her. I have pics in my bio if you want to take a look. Hope it give you some ideas at least. Good luck! :)
