Bad night for DH

So DH has been studying to be  a CPA since he got out of college in 2004.... He was so close to getting his CPA license  - until yesterday.

Some background... To get your CPA license , you need to pass 4 tests, with a score of 75 on each. Once you pass your first test, you have 18 months to pass the other 3 tests until the first test expires, and then you have to take that first test again - confusing, I know...

Well, DH had passed 3 of the tests, and took the 4th one in May. He felt really confident about his performance, but when the scores were released last night... he failed the test with a 69.

Whats worse, is that the very first test that he passed expires on June 30.... so now, instead of only needing one test to pass the CPA - he has to pass two.

He was so upset last night. So disappointed. He cried a little... I can only imagine how frustrated he is, and I feel so helpless. Its just a crappy situation, you know?

Re: Bad night for DH

  • That really stinks...I'm sorry!

My DH is a CPA and I know how stressful the situation  w/ the test is. We have a friend in a similar situation to your husband except he got a 73.

Would he think to appeal and have them rescore? 6 points is quite a few for the test for them to find on an appeal from what I've heard but it could be worth a shot if he really thought he did well.

  • I am so sorry to hear that. I can imagine how frustrated he must be. I hope it all works out!

Maybe? I didnt know they had appeals! Its a worth a shot - but I do think that there is a fee for it... But the husband has failed a different section before with a score of 74 once - which is crap really. I wish I knew about the appeal then!

This is the toughest section for him to pass - Audit... He does tax accounting, so this is out of his realm.... the first time he took audit, h got a 59, this time he got a 69... third times a charm?

Yes, there is a fee...I think it's abut $50-75 ish.

Jeff is an auditor so that section was pretty easy for him, which was diff for most. He did a lot of tax during his internship so that he was pretty balanced. But I remember him saying (when he took it 2 years ago) that Audit would be really difficult for people with no background in it, which he thought was a bit unfair.

Best of luck to him...I know how stressful this whole process is for you, too!

  • How stressful...sorry that he is going through that T...

  • Thanks V -

He actually came home in a much better mood today.... he said that he already paid and signed up to take the two tests over again... and then he was taking practice tests for the Audit test (the one he just failed), and seems to be getting all the answers right!

So hopefully this time around he'll manage to pass it, and then re-pass Regulation too!
