TPT-Third Person Tuesday

(since I didn't do it the past few wks... Surprise)

Third Person Tuesday...

Choice A: What vacations did you used to go on as a kid?

The good (one that you really remember)

The bad (one that was ok)

The ugly (one you just dreaded...)

Re: TPT-Third Person Tuesday

  • Lauren can't think of any bad vacations, so...

The Good - Lauren traveled a lot growing up.  Some of her favorite trips were to Vegas, California, Florida, and Bermuda.  She especially loved going to Vegas (once a year starting when she was 5), because she had family there, loved all the fun attractions, and loved going in the pools.

  • Kristy didn't really go on vacations as a young kid, mostly day trip events. Her dad is all business.

the good: at 16, Kristy, her mom, and cousin went on a 3 week, 9 country tour of Europe with the girl scouts. It was amazinggggg.

the ok: almost every summer, Kristy's family would go to Raystown Lake in north central PA for a day. One year, they toured a cave on the way and she loved it cause she's a rock nerd.

the ugly: in 91, her family DROVE like 23 hours from PA to visit cousins in Missouri. The night before, she wrecked her bike and ripped the hell out of her knee (and still has a huge, ugly scar). It was a terrible, long drive and they had to take detours around St Louis because of devastating flooding. The water was up to the steps of the arch. Then, she and her sisters had to sleep in the damp basement in sleeping bags for 3 days. A month later, she was attacked by the family dog and almost lost her ear. She couldn't go on a beach trip because she was in the hospital. BAD SUMMER.

  • Lorelai remembers going camping A LOT... going to the beach (Bethany, OC, MD, and Wildwood-King Nummy Campground (in her single digit years)).  She did love going to Ontario Place and found it funny her DH did, too! Mainly east coast trips...

As for the bad... Lorelai didn't like the historical stuff-her sister remembers a bad time going to Williamsburg.  She might like it now?

The ugly... Lorelai was a girl scout... one of the badges had to do with bike riding and the family went to Assateague (sp?) or something like it.  They rode bikes for what seemed like FOREVER and she recalls getting stung/bit by horseflies!  Horrible!!

LOL! Kristy wonders why you'd go to the beach just to ride bikes?! Kristy loves Assateague - uncrowded, clean beach, but the bugs ARE bad. (Assateague Island, MD has wild ponies and beach camping for those of you who aren't familiar)

  • The good: Jenny and her family used to go camping every summer, and Jenny LOVED it! Jenny is happy that N also grew up camping, and is excited that they will be going camping this summer with her sister and sister's family, and her mom! Jenny's family also used to travel with her dad to his annual work conference in the summer. It was never anywhere exciting, but Jenny and her sisters loved to stay in the hotel and swim in the pool. That is where Jenny got her love of hotels, and it is what caused Jenny to go into hotel management.

The better: when Jenny was 17, her grandparents started setting up family reunions. They were every other summer at a B&B that used to be a ranch, and her mom's side of the family would all go (about 23 people). Jenny loves that side of the family, and really enjoyed those 3 days of family fun. Jenny's family did 6 of those reunions before her grandparents passed away.

Jenny never dreaded any family vacations - they were always fun!

  • The Good- Since Sierra was four her family(mom & dad) would go on a Wagon Train. It was riding horses and camping for a week and a half. Sierra loved it!! But about 10 year ago it turned into a drunk party and almost died out. But Sierra?s daddy and others did their best to make it a family affair again. Sierra hasn?t been in about 3 years because of school, getting married, life in general. Well Sierra is getting to go this year and is SOOOO EXCITED!!! Even though she will only get to stay 3 days she is still going to get to see many friends she hasn?t seen in a long time.

Sierra can?t think of any bad family vacations. Except maybe this latest one with her in-laws. But that?s a whole other post.

  • Good:  When Stephanie was 15 she went to Hawaii with her best friend and her best friends family.  It was amazing!

The bad:   Stephanie had to go to a music festival with her dad EVERY year where they camped and listened to bluegrass music.  Bleck.  To this day Stephanie can't really listen to bluegrass music without thinking of this festival.

The ugly:   Stephanie can't think of anything that was dreaded other than the drive from her house to grandma's every summer.  The actual vacation was nice but the drive through the central valley of California in a car with no A/C was dreaded.

  • Jen's favorite vacation wasa drive from chi to TX and NM to see family, camp, and go to carlsbad caverns! It was her first big long vacay as a kid. Jen's bad vacay was when her fam was in MI with their boat and grandma had a heart attack and needed a bypass. It was a scary vacay. The ugly vacay was sad too...it was the last time jen's dad was able to take the boat out in 2001. The boat broke down and only went in reverse and jen and her sis had to push the boat onto the traIler (19 foot speedboat) in a storm when the power winch failed and the boat couldn't go forward. That was fun! It ended well though...jens fam went to the lodge for dinner and drinks that night!

Lorelai's fam went there for summer vacation and figured they could ALSO do the GS patch thing... Lorelai's mom was a troop leader-ugh!  stupid gs patches.... Lorelai's fam took their bikes camping all.the.time.

  • The Best: Ash's favorite vacation ever was to San Fransisco. It was the only Spring Break she ever took and it was her first vacation with DH. It was one of the best times she ever had. She was able to meet up with some friends that lived there and explore the city. She can't wait to go back and do it again =D.

The Better: Ash's honeymoon was a fabulous vacation. She and her DH went to the Biltmore in Asheville, NC and they planned every romantic event possible. The first day there, they went horseback riding in the morning and toured the house in the afternoon. The next day they had massages to start the day, tea in the library, a carriage ride around the estate, and a candlelight tour of the house. The next day they toured the winery before leaving. Not to mention the food was amazing and was included in the package so Ash ate wonderfully.

The Good: Ash used to take family vacations every year to visit her dad's side of the family in Houston. Then also one trip to the local theme park, Kennywood, every year. Overall, they are fond memories. What sticks out the most is when Ash went ice skating for the first time at the Galleria (a mall in Houston with a rink on the main level).

The Bad: Although Ash doesn't necessarily find this vacation to have been a bad one, she did dread going on it. She had just started dating her DH about 6 months before and she wanted to stay home and spend the summer with him - not waste 2 prime weeks of July (including the 4th) in Houston. Also, her DH was schedule for surgery while she would be gone and she wanted to be there with him. Although she dread leaving and spent over $200 on long distance calling with one of those 10 10 numbers (yeah, we didn't have a cell phone nor did any of the family...) it was an ok trip. She does love seeing her family and now, it's not often.

The Worst: One year when Ash's family was heading to Kennywood, Ash was terribly sick. She ended up getting sick in the car on the way there and they all had to turn around and go home. Thankfully the tickets were able to be used anyday, so they waited and went the next week.

  • Ash apologizes for the enormous post. She has little motivation to work today especially since she'll be leaving soon. Plus, she's in desparate need of a vacation so thinking back to old ones helps alittle....
