A while ago (last week?) I think you mentioned the Blood Type diet. What are your thoughts about it? I'm currently looking into the Genotype diet, and am a little skeptical about it...
Re: Kristina
Well I just started it this weekend and did have more energy this weekend. I ate according to my blood type and now want to get the book. Here is the website. Not to put all my business out there, but I've not felt well for the last 6 months or so (went to the doctor in January) and I am very anemic, have an abnormal/enlarged thyroid, have digestive/intestinal problems (have been tested for celiac twice-negative, and my father has it), no energy (when i get home from work I ususally take a 2-3 hour nap every day), super bloated all the time, super heavy menstrual cycles (large blood clots), all of my joints/muscles hurt, basically feel like crap all the time. They put me on meds which seemed to be helping the first few months, then within the last month my energy has gone way down and I am back to feeling the way I did before I went to the doctor in January.
I've seen several people blog about this "diet" who were experiencing the same things I am and they are bloggers I read daily, so I don't feel like this diet is a bunch of bull. Plus it's not really a "diet"....just a way to eat better to feel better. I go back to the doctor in August (to get more tests done and get my thyroid re-scanned etc) but I am willing to try anything at this point to feel better. I have had digestive/intestinal problems for years....and no solution from doctors. I am "type A" and everything listed under type A made SO much sense to me. I am not familiar with the genotype diet but I guess it is an "expansion" of the blood type diet. I would check out the website below and see what you think, read under your blood type. Again I just started it this past weekend but as I get more into it I can let you know if it "works" if you want.
Sorry that was long and if that is TMI.....but I have been feeling like crap for months (years) now and just want to feel better already.

Oh, I've already been there. I googled it when you mentioned it last week. I have weight loss issue... mostly in that I can't lose weight (more than 5 lbs or so). I fully understand the concept of burn more calories than you consume, and have tried various food combinations, and have had little success over the past three to four years. It really takes the motivation out of exercising when you know it's not going to do anything.
So I'm always looking at different diets, and decided to go into the Genotype diet. You're correct in saying it's an expansion of the blood type diet. I checked the book out of the library yesterday and did all the measurements and tests it wanted me to do. I'm in the "Explorer" genotype, which I'm dubious about, but the numbers are what they are. (I would have thought Teacher or Gatherer.)
I'm thinking about trying it, but it's going to be a lot of work. First, it eliminates a bunch of common foods from my diet (milk, yogurt, bananas, strawberries, etc.) and encourages foods I've never even heard of. To name just a few: Canistel, Kohlrabi, Sapodilla, Romanian urda, Snailfish roe, Feijoa, etc. (If you know what any of these are, please let me know!
)
But I'm glad to hear you're feeling better. Are there special vitamins they want you to buy, too? (There are for the Genotype diet, and I'm not sure if I want to shell that kind of money out...)
Ps. Yay for type A!
You're on your own for most of these but I do have Kohlrabi in my fridge. You can typically find it in the grocery stores in the summertime - looks like an apple sized light green lumpy bulb with stems coming off the top.

I like them!
Snailfish roe though - that sounds like yucky caviar!
So what do you do with it? Have a recipe to share?
And yes... snailfish roe will not be something I'll investigate...
