A while back I mentioned the company I work for that is contracted by DC Public Schools might lose the contract. Well, they did. I'm not surprised since a lot of stuff came out and a huge district-wide meeting and even people from the fed dept of ed was there and reiteratting rules, etc. that were blatantly being broken. We tried to tell our director since we know the law as teachers but they didn't listen.
Long story short, we were told our jobs are safe because they didn't lose the contract because of our work, but because of their poor management. So phew, I have a job, at the same school and I am thrilled!
We also had about $50k to spend on supplies for my room. They are getting delivered as we speak and I am so overwhelmed. It's amazing what these kids will have next year! I am so excited for them!
On top of that, my principal told me today that because of low enrollment, I actually get to use a classroom! I'll have 2 small adjoining rooms to use and I cannot wait. No more janitor closet turned classroom for me!!! I'm beyond thrilled.
I guess through all of this I have learned that if you do what you're supposed to, good things come to you. It may not be how you'd predict but it will. And people who do wrong are punished...so even if things are rough, keep on plugging along as something great will happen!
Re: Ups and downs...
Everything is ordered and arriving as we speak! It was so quick! I didn't have much time but I got some great organizing furniture, new table so I can actually sit with my students and work with them, and 6,000 books! Lots of other little doo dads too
I have never gotten a penny to spend on school supplies as it's all been my own money. This is actual federal grant money through Title I that they asked if we wanted to use since someone had to by the end of the summer. Ummm yes please!
