Healthy Vibes please (long)

I just realized that I never did post about the health stuff with my folks that had me so upset last week. My dad has been diagnosed with non-alcoholic cirrhosis of the liver and has an enlarged spleen and fluid built up in his stomach cavity, which will need to be drained eventually. He's lost 30+ lbs as he has difficulty eating without stomach upset. He has pills to take, but he's not good at taking medication.... which unfortunately also means he is not a candidate for the only cure, a liver transplant. There's no timetable. The part that really kills me is that it is likely that this is from taking statin medications for many years - the same ones that were supposed to help control cholesterol since his 5-bypass in 96 are now contributing to what will eventually kill him. When I last saw my internist and told him about it, he immediately took me off those same meds because I have liver issues too. I did talk to my dad on Sunday and he sounded very good. He was in good spirits and talked about the dinner they had. He said he was eating better. Of course, I will find out from mom if he was telling the truth. I worry that they aren't telling me the whole story to avoid upsetting me.

Then... my mom had a scary incident. She's diabetic and she somehow had a crash and what we can only guess was instinct saved her life. She woke up one morning and started her usual routine in the kitchen and the next thing she realized she was sitting at her computer with a candy bar in her mouth (she keeps a stash in the freezer just in case). She tested her sugar and it was really low. When she checked the kitchen she found that she had thrown the wrapper on the floor and drank a whole bottle of water (a big no-no as a dialysis patient) and threw it on the floor too. She has no recollection of any of this. When she told the doctor about it, he said that candy bar likely saved her life. Scary!

So now my oldest brother (46 this week) is in the hospital with a bad infection in his toes/foot/leg. He's diabetic and has had issues with them for several years and this is his second hospitalization for it. Last time one of the doctors wanted to amputate, but they opted to treat with IV therapy instead. I don't know what direction they'll want to take this time. I'll find out more when I call mom tonight.

So, some healthy vibes for my family would be much appreciated!
