so i have been on yaz for about 4 years or so and just yesterday switched to the new generic form Gianvi. has anyone heard anything about it or has switched over themselves? any side effects? any information is greatly appreciated!
Re: anbody on Gianvi?
Just to clarify -
The FDA's passing requirements for generics to be substituted for brand name drugs is that they have to conduct tests and prove that the active ingredients in the generic work exactly the same as the brand name drug.
Additionally, it is important to note that many brand name manufacturers also have a thriving generic business and in some cases (I've seen this myself!) they sell the brand name and generic formulations and simply label some bottles with the brand name sticker and the others with the generic.
Now, a note on inactive ingredients. The FDA does not require generic manufacturers to create the tablets or capsules in the same way as the brand name so there are cases in which the inactive ingredients are not the same as the brand name. For the vast majority of people, this will not have any impact versus the brand name.
