yay!

got a promotion today to supervisor :) i'm excited about the official leadership role b/c i've been 'supervising' for the last six months anyways. and the hard work is paying off.

following last week's drama with coworkes, the timing is a little bitter sweet. i know leading a group of 4 other women will have its ups and downs. but i will try my best through whatever my arise. i hope the others will be supportive, especially following recent catyness (sp?)

i'm open to any advise that has to deal with women, work & keeping the drama to a minimum ...LOL!

Re: yay!

  • That is so awesome - congrats!

I am a supervisor, and here are a few of my suggestions:

-Remember how you like to be treated & be as open, honest, and helpful as you can.

-Realize that since you are their supervisor, you may need to skip out on things sometimes - although a drink after work can be nice, it can also change the supervisor/employee status/level

ITA. Having been a supervisor and working closely with others who are, things can go downhill pretty quickly in the respect department when you start getting to close outside of work.

But congrats! It sounds like you really deserve it and I'm sure you'll do a great job!

  • Congratulations, Katie!! I don't have any advice, but I bet you will do just fine.. you're smart and you have charisma (I can totally say that, because I've met you lol)... I hope it works out wonderfully for you! :) GL w/ the ladies at work... I hope the catiness is kept at a minimum.

  • Congrats, Katie!

    Ditto what others have said.

  • Congrats on your promotion! I don't know that I have any advice, as I've never supervised, but I used to work in an office of all women and there was no cattiness.  I think a lot of that had to deal with the no BS culture of the company rather than the attitude of my direct boss. But she was a great boss. She was good about avoiding gossip about both higher management and anyone in the office while still being very approachable. I think the best thing about her was that I knew she'd always back me up to either customers or higher management. Even if she didn't agree with a decision and decided to overrule it, she did it in a diplomatic way that never made me appear wrong to management or customers. Instead of being like "She shouldn't have done that!" it was more "We'll do this instead", kind of brushing over whatever mistake was made. Good luck with the challenges you'll be facing!
  • How exciting!!  I'm so happy for you!  Even though this might force you to have to deal with drama, I think you are going to do a great job!!  Congrats!
  • Party!!!  Congratulations!!
