Re: POLL! grocery coupons
I just voted never... but that's just in general. I have used coupons in the past when Central Market used to do the $10 off a $40 purchase and stuff like that. They don't do them anymore
Otherwise, I find that coupons make me buy more stuff than I would normally, just because it seems like a good deal.

I clicked "always" bc I always try to use coupons. I clip them from the Sunday paper every week, but a lot of the time there just aren't coupons for what we buy. I don't substitute items I buy w/ items I have a coupon for very often bc it's rarely a better deal. I also don't buy anything extra just bc I have a coupon, unless it's something significantly reduced that I know I'll use within a certain time frame.
The whole double/ triple coupon thing is too much work for me. They have to be a certain amount, on a certain day, for the exact things you use. That's too much work for me.
Also, HEB has some of the best coupons already printed in their store, so if anyone uses those, you're already making a dent in what comes from the paper.
I don't clip coupons, but I'm heavily influenced by the in-store ones at HEB. I'm careful not to get something just because there is a coupon, but they do dictate what brand we buy a lot of the time. The meal deals and combo locos also help me with menu planning, for example, there was a deal last week to buy pre-seasoned fajita meat and get cheese, sour cream, guac, tortillas, chips and soda free. We got it because we eat fajitas frequently and buy most of the other stuff anyway, but didn't bother with the chips or guac, since we don't eat those.
I love seeing those little yellow tags on the aisles and the total savings on my receipt. Its usually between 10-25% of the bill. Definitely worth it in my book.
ETA: FCB brings up a good point about substituting. I always check the price per unit on the labels on the shelf to make sure that I'm really getting a better deal with the coupon.
My mom always bought the discounted, about to be thrown out meat at Kroger when I was a kid. Not sure if stores still do this, but I haven't noticed it. I have noticed that items in the combo locos are sometimes marked "reduced for quick sale," so maybe thats like the same thing.

I voted other - for a while I was an "always" kind of shopper. Right now with a newborn, I don't have as much time. I love using coupons. I still try to check my favorite coupon websites for good deals every Sunday. I try to print out coupons and remember to take them with me...but it doesn't always work out. Like last night I went to the grocery store, I remembered to take my coupons with me...but left them in the car.
I've also been so 'lax on the coupons because the flyers dont really seem to have any valuable coupons for me right now. Before LO was born I was a coupon queen and stocked the house with bathroom stuff. I don't have to buy shampoo, body wash, deoderant or razors until next year.
We don't have any stores that do double coupons - that sucks. BUT target will take a target coupon & a manufature coupon for the same product.
Here are some of my favorite websites:

Target printable coupons:

Gatorade $1.02 x 2 = $2.04 - $.75, = $1.29
Swanson $.49 x 3 = $1.47 - $.40, = $1.07
Campbells $.49 x 9 = $4.41 - $.40, - $1.00, -$1.00 = $2.01

I think Randalls will triple under .30 and double under .50.
I used to use coupons all the time, now I only clip a coupon if it is a product I know I will buy, like ziploc bags and Cheerios.
I found that I was spending a lot of time clipping coupons and never using them. I do read through all of the coupon circulars in the Sunday paper, though. I am just cutting out fewer than I used to. I definitely pay for the newspaper subscription (and then some) with my coupon clipping.
One thing I do more of is keep a mental idea of a good price for meat. If it goes on sale below the price I consider to be "good" - I buy extra and freeze it.
I voted never - I am horrible at remembering to bring the coupons that we do have with me and we don't get the paper. plus, I really do try to avoid buying processed foods so the coupons are usually not of value to me.
I'm not good at the coupon game at all. However, we're bulk shoppers. My parents have lent me their vacuum sealer machine, so I buy chicken, beef, and fish at Costco every 6 weeks or so (spend about $70) and portion it into serving sizes. Then I vaccum pack it and freeze it.
We also buy our TP, paper towels, diapers and wipes from Costco. We probably buy TP about every 6 months (it really does last us a long time). Same with paper towels.
I love HEB's in-store coupons and use them as much as possible. Also, I'm a huge fan of the Combo Locos.
I am sad about this too! The coupons used to motivate us to go to CM, so now we go less often.
I love couponing - it's the main reason I get the Sunday paper. But I'm still trying to get good at it. I probably just manage to pay for the paper with the grocery coupons I clip. But I have saved quite a bit using the Michael's and Walgreens coupons that come in the paper.
