Secure Dog Park Recos?

Anybody have any recos for dog parks that are really secure (preferably in Mason area)?

We took Toby to the one on Old Irwin Simpson and he found a hole and got out.  With closer inspection we found a few more that he could get out of, too.  So, I don't feel comfortable taking him there anymore but would like to let him run around and get socialized with other dogs...

I heard about Wiggly Field in West Chester but had heard it tends to be a big mud pit so not so sure I want to deal with a dirty dog everytime we go there.

Re: Secure Dog Park Recos?

  • we go to wiggly field.  We have only been there twice but the first time we weren't impressed but the last time was  much better.  It was only muddy in the corners of the fence.  But I would imagine after a rain it would be super muddy!  Good luck dog parks are fun!

  • You've mentioned the only two I know of near Mason. There's one in Morrow near Little Miami High School that's very grassy (less mud) and as far as I could tell, very well maintained (no holes).  The only problem is there is very little shade.  You would go north from Four Paws for about 7-10 minutes (ish?).

    Something I pulled from Google:

Hamilton Township Warren County Ohio. Large & Small dog parks! There are two fenced off areas one with a little over two acres and one with a little over one acre for the large and small animals. There are two benches for resting while your pet is playing, and the parking is at the veterinarian parking lot adjacent to the park as well as the high school parking lot just across the road. "Please under no circumstances park at the adjoining Ms. Michelle's Day Care facility. The owner has concerns regarding the safety of her children and the use of the daycare parking lot for the loading and unloading of animals." This park has been built totally by donations from many pet lovers in the area. The park is fenced and has the necessary tools for you to clean up from your pet with plastic bags, trash cans and the like. Location: Corner of 22/3 and Morrow Cozedale Road, across from Little Miami High School. Directions: North on State Highway 22/3 from State Highway 48. Park in High school or Veterinarian's parking lot.

  • I was going to suggest Wiggly Field.  We drove by there recently and it was empty around 6pm.

Maybe we could have our dogs meet up at the dog park for a play date at Wiggly Field?  My dogs are extremely active and love to wrestle--just a forewarning before if we ever meet up!  Also, we are taking them this weekend to get their updated shots, so it would probably have to be after 4th of July.

Have you worked with Toby on recall?  Like, does he come to you when you call?  That might help ease your mind about escape routes!

Um yeah right now Toby is the least active dog I've ever seen when it comes to other dogs.  He's very submissive so your dogs I'm sure would be all over him lol!  He likes to sniff...other dogs...and the ground :D.  We took him to play with my friend's puppy and while they chased each other for awhile he seemed tuckered out and went to hide about 5 mins later lol.  Hopefully doggy day care will help socialize him :).  Would be fun to do a Nestie doggy playdate, though!

Recall?  Toby has no recall when it comes to escaping.  That's much of my anxiety and even if we trained him well, I don't know that he'd ever be great at it.  It's my understanding that beagles and other scent hounds kind of suck at recall :P.  He ignores you and then stops when he finds what he's looking for or gets cornered.

  • I am no help, but we typically go to Otto Armleder (sp?) on Wooster pike. Tera does great there.

Here's a link to a website that includes info on some of the dog parks in the nati:

It looks like there is one in Deerfield.

  • Symmes Township Park on Lebanon Road has a dog park. You have to walk about half a mile on the wooded trail to get to the dog park. There are hardly any dogs ever there and you need to bring your own water, but since it's in the woods, it stays pretty cool. I don't think there are holes, but I'm not positive. Good luck!
