Which one should I buy?

I am going to buy a newer vehicle this weekend.  I have test drove both and I can't decide!  Either a 2007 or newer Honda Pilot or Toyota 4runner.  Either will have to have leather interior and 4wd.  I like how spacious the Pilot is but I like the body better on a 4runner.  Thoughts, experiences...help!

Re: Which one should I buy?

  • Are you buying used? How many miles on each? What's the price difference?

Gas milage would definitely be my decision maker if the prices seemed comparable.

I haven't owned a honda or a toyota... but my inlaws say that maintenance on toyotas are much more expensive.... Not sure if that's all models though.

I currently own a VW, the maintenance on that is VERY expensive.  Any oil change is 102.00 because of the special stupid filters it takes!

Everything on the two vehicles is comperable from gas mileage to insurance to everything....

  • I have been obsessed with Toyota 4-Runners for years and when it finally came down to getting a new car, I got a Honda Pilot.  I had a Toyota Celica before (still do) and never had a problem (almost 8 years old) with the car or service.  We/I decided on the Honda Pilot because it got better gas mileage and better ratings.  And the price was way better, and I only liked the older 4-runner models...not so much the new model.  My mom owns a Honda Accord and loves it, my parents also had a Honda Accord when I was growing up and that car lasted forever.  I think both Toyotas and Hondas are awesome cars/companies and you really can't go wrong.  But in the end the price and mileage made a difference for us.

Thank you!  This is how I feel too and exactly the info I was looking for,  What year is your pilot?

  • It's a 2008.  It was the first used car I ever bought, but the price/mileage was awesome.
  • I don't have experience with either specific model, but I am a Honda girl all the way. I have a 98 Civic that I bought used in 02, and I haven't had ANY mechanical problems, other than regular maintenance. It has 130k miles on it now and easily has another 5 years in it, though I'll probably be upgrading in the next year. It will make some high schooler very happy! Also, it still gets about 25 mpg!
