I still don't like my SIL
NOTHING HAS CHANGED! I thought that maybe after the wedding I'd become more able to tolerate stupidity but I guess not! Hubs and I are about to disown her. She's 28.....no job...has been in college for hmm...going on 9 years....no degree yet. She can't pass the OGET (Oklahoma general education teaching exam) and they even made it so she can't take any more education classes until she passes this exam...she has taken it 8 times (at $175 a test) The girl isn't very bright, I had to explain negative integers to her becuase she told me that there is no way you can subtract 8 from 5. No kidding this was the problem on the practise test Solve this equation= 2(5-8). Well.....hubs parent's don't make very much money but they work at least 50-60 hours a week. She has decided that SHE HAS to get married next month...not even a 2 month warning. So her parents are paying for it all since she obviously can't afford it and her brain dead fiance can't either. Well she has a 3 yr old son that she has been dumping on them to watch EVERY weekend so she can be with her guy. And then she has the nerve to be rude to them when they have to work and can't babysit. I fear for this kid. I feel like she sees him more as an inconvience for her and her fiance that she's known for 7 months. My in-laws are too nice, I would have told her where to stick those wedding plans along time ago. I just had to vent.

Re: I still don't like my SIL
Geez! She sounds like a HUGE piece of work! I'm sorry you have to deal with her!
I kinda know where your coming from with your new nephew though. My SIL has a 13 month old and I really don't like how she handles her most of the time. Me, my other SIL, my MIL, and even my mom have said things to her about how rough she's being with the baby but she doesn't care at all. It really makes me mad...
Ugh, people like that drive me absolutely insane. They want what everyone else has without any thought about whether they can pay for it, and expect it to be handed to them on a silver platter. If she is 28, she needs to cut the purse strings...I'd be MORTIFIED to ask my mom or my in-laws to pay for things for me. And as a teacher, I find it frightening that she can't pass such a simple test...those exams are honestly a joke and are just a way of weeding out people who are completely incompetent. I wouldn't want my child to be taught by someone who needed to write that a number of times just to pass.
The potty training story just saddens me.
I still think that we have the same SIL! Except mine is 25 and has no kid or fiance because she doesn't stay in one place long enough. She's been "in college" since she was 18 or 19, too, and still no degree in sight. Or actual career plans.
My SIL is the main reason I quit FB. I was sick of her status updates that were thinly-veiled "messages" to and about everyone. I didn't like the fact that she knew so much about our lives. Matt and I both felt like I couldn't block her because she's "family" and would find out someday, somehow, and start crap over it, so I decided, eff it.
She does not have the initiative to contact her brother or me now that neither of us has an active Facebook account. Life is much quieter and happier now.
i kinda wish I had someone crazy in my family (aside from my cousin's wife that wears white to weddings... PS SHE DIDN'T AT OUR WEDDING! She actually wore a aqua blue dress that looked AMAZING on her!)
Anyways, at the same time, I'm glad I don't have to really deal with the crazy in-law either. She really does sound like an absolute trainwreck and like she is completely jealous of you and HH's relationship.
Makes for good stories though, eh?
Wow... that sucks!! I can only imagine how awkward family functions are for you! Has your DH ever said anything to his parents about continuing to pay for her?
I'm sure it's hard to bite your tongue all the time... My SIL and MIL are constantly fighting and sometimes I wish that I was able to just sit them down and give a real, honest opinion about the way they're both acting, but I know it's not my place : (
Also, I completely agree with PP-- the test I took to get into the teacher's college at my school was just to make sure you were performing at an 8th grade level... if she can't pass it after that many tries, then it's definitely time to pick a new career!
