Last night, Don fell asleep on the couch, we weren't arguing, he just did. Well, Daisy usually goes to sleep with me, but wakes up to be let out just before Don comes to bed. So when I briefly opened my eyes at 1 or so, it wasn't unusual for Daisy to be where Don is.
About 6 am is when my alarm goes off so I can temp, let Daisy out and just go back to bed to rest for about 20 minutes. So when my alarm went off, Daisy wasn't around to wake up with the thermometer beeps. I noticed Don was still downstairs, as the lights were on, so I figured Daisy fell asleep near him. I went downstairs to do my normal routine of letting her out, and I couldn't find her.
I looked out the door, and BIL's dog (we watch him at night, another story) is laying by the back door, but outside. I was like "omg! They're outside for how long?!" BIL's dog would sit staring in for a long time, so the fact he was laying down told me they both were out for too long. I let in Chaos, and look for Daisy, she's nowhere in the yard. Crap. I look at the gate, and the bottom of 2 wood planks were torn off. Crap crap. I try not to panic.
I run inside, slip on my flip flops and run out the front door as Don is still blinking himself awake. I look on the side of the house, and Daisy's shirt she was wearing last night because it seemed to help her with the storm, is a few feet from the gate. I didn't know where to start, so out of desperation I just yelled out "Daisy" from my driveway. Holy crap! She comes running across the street right to me. I couldn't believe she had actually stayed nearby, and that she was fine, just seemed a little scared, but once she saw I wasn't mad she was happy to be back. I gave her lots of pettin's and told her let's go inside, to which she just ran to the front door and was so happy to be back inside. Don said he didn't remember when he let them out, probably in his sleep. I'm annoyed that he didn't wake up to their scratching and whining at the door to come in. But I'm glad Daisy was found unhurt and nearby. I guess I'm not mad, because what is that going to do now?
But holy monkeys, that woke me up quick! Nothing like a heart attack to start a Friday.
Re: Had quite a scare this morning...
Oh my goodness...I can't imagine how that felt. I would freak OUT if I couldn't find Gracie. And sadly, she probably wouldn't come running if I called because she loves it outside so much.
Glad Daisy is safe and back home!
