Dress for a wedding

I posted on the Fashion and Beauty board too, but thought I might get a quicker response here....

I just found out the location of the wedding I am going to in September (4th).  It is a very nice Cathedral downtown (where local NHL players get married!) and a swanky conference center afterwards.  I know most of the people that are going are going to be all "dolled" up and its going to be a big wedding.

I had bought a similar dress to this one, except mine has more of a tank top style to it on top. Its black and white and the polka dots are smaller on my dress.....but its made by the same people...so how it fits on the model is similar....

Do you think this dress is nice enough?

And what are your recommendations for shoes/accessories

Thanks!!

Re: Dress for a wedding

  • If you're in a Cathedral, will you need to bring a cover-up so you're shoulders are covered during the ceremony?  Something to think about. A small black shrug should do the trick.

I'd go with black heels - probably a peep toe since it's still warm the first week in Sept...a little more formal than strappy sandals, I think.

  • Does the invitation give any clues to a dress code?  And as PP said, you'll need something to cover your shoulders in the cathedral.

  • I don't know if it's dressy enough especially if you know people are going all out.  But, red peep toe pumps would be adorable with it!

  • I think it's fine, but yes, you will most likely have to cover your shoulders.

  • I think the dress is really cute, but could you find out from someone else what they're wearing to see if it's acceptable?  If everyone is going to be all dolled up, you may need something a bit dressier.  What time of day is the wedding/reception?

Thats a really good idea!  I was thinking of having a wrap for my shoulders and a nice clutch and shoes to try and dress it up.  Red would be perfect!

Its so comfortable, and I find it really hard to find dresses that flatter my athletic-type frame....

  • Its an evening wedding Stu.

And a big Lebanese wedding to put it in context, so all of her friends and family will be dressed to the nines.  They always look great.

If I have to, I will get a different dress, but at least I have this if I can't find anything else...

  • Ditto ashleyanne... red peep toe pumps would look perfect with that dress!!

  • I think its very cute! I've never been to a Cathedral wedding before so I don't know what is/isn't appropriate though. And I agree that red pumps would look great!

  • Thanks for the tips guys!

I will try to post a picture over the weekend of it, so you can get a better idea of what it looks like.

  • It is a cute dress, but it looks like more of a daytime/work dress. If this wedding is really swanky, it may not be dressy enough. Usually the invitation will give dresscode clues.

I totally agree with this. It is a beautiful dress and for a less formal day wedding I think this would be a great dress but I think a bit more formal may be the way to go. You don't want to under dress I would talk to someone else that is going as well just to get an idea for the feel if you are unsure. If you are asking us I think you may be doubting yourself a bit in your choice as well.
