Whats your favorite thing to make for the 4th?
My children count on my RED WHITE N BLUE Strawberries. Funny the simpilest thing to do for non-bakers, non-cooks. Take some awesome strawberries melt some white chocolate, dip the strawberries a little over halfway up in white chocolate. dip them into blue sprlinkles I like the crystals half way up the white chocolate and then sit on wax paper to harden. It is fun festive and everyone enjoys them well unless they don't like strawberries of course! People think you worked really hard and it doesn't take long at all put them on a festive place and done!

I love Wave Your Flag Cake! I use angel food cake instead of the pound cake though.

Strawberry Shortcake Trifle! It's lot of steps but SOOOO delicious! I just made some last night and added some fresh peaches to the strawberries!
Ingredients
* 1 large angel food cake ( I make mine from scratch but Betty Crocker makes a great mix) - Cut into bite-sized cubes
For the custard:
* 1 (8-ounce) package cream cheese, softened
* 1 (14-ounce) can sweetened condensed milk ( I use a little less than the whole can ? makes it a little TOO sweet)
* 1 (12-ounce) container cool whip
For the glaze:
* 1 cup sugar
* 3 tablespoons cornstarch
* 3 tablespoons strawberry gelatin (recommended: Jell-O)
* 1 cup water
* 2 cups fresh strawberries, cut into bite size pieces
For the custard:
Beat cream cheese in a mixer or with hand mixer until creamy. Slowly add condensed milk (this will help avoid lumps!) Mix in whipped topping ; set aside.
For the glaze:
In a medium saucepan, stir together sugar, cornstarch, and gelatin; add water. Cook stirring over medium heat until thick. Remove from heat and allow to cool completely. Fold in strawberries.
For assembly:
Place 1 layer of cake pieces in a large clear bowl. Top with a layer of berry glaze, followed by a layer of custard mixture. Repeat layering in this order for remaining cake, glaze and custard. (three layers of each in a standard trifle bowl-ending with custard) Top cake with 3 whole fresh strawberries and fresh mint leaves.
MMMMM! Pam, I want some...NOW! What a great idea.
Last 4th I made red velvet cupcakes and I painted the icing bag with red and blue food coloring so that when I piped the icing it came out red, white, and blue striped. Then I sprinkled them with red sanding sugar. I'm debating if I want to make them again this year or make something else. I kind of want to make something that will let me show off a wedding gift.
I love the trifle Idea hmmm funny how most of us come up with recipes that have strawberries in them!
I will suggest the red velvet cupcakes to one of my bridesmaids her boyfriend loves red velvet cake.
My mom makes an AWESOME chocolate trifle (and I hate sweets, but I LOVE this). I'm not sure the exact order that the stuff is layered in, but it has brownies (or chocolate cake, whichever you prefer), whipped cream, chocolate pudding, crunched up Heath bars, whipped cream on top and then chocolate shavings on top. That thing is AMAZING!!!
Pam I LOVE the strawberry idea, I will have to try it sometime!
My sister made something a few months ago that were so cute, they were yellow cupcakes split in half (horizontally), with a round piece of brownie in the middle, with red, yellow and green frosting piped around the top and bottom of the brownies!! They were hamburgers!!! So cute!!
You've heard what I've done, not what I've been through.
If you were in my shoes, you'd fall the first step."
