hi work, meet loopy.

i had my wisdom teeth out on wednesday. the vicodin made me violently throw up later that night, so i stopped taking them. i managed through yesterday with advils and was pretty ok. last night the advils stopped working and i'm in far more pain today than i was yesterday.

but because i'm paid hourly with no vaca (cuz i'm still temping), i forced myself to return to work today. the office manager gave me her 800mg ibprofen pills to see if they would help.

yup, i feel pretty darn good right now. and pretty darn loopy. i'm just kind of staring at everything. i'm not sure why, since it's only ibprofen. but alas, i am sedated, feeling better and ready to curl up under the desk (which, at this point, may be allowed).

  • Oh dear, I hope you feel better soon!

  • aww I completely know how you feel! The second time I met DH's parents I had just had my wisdom teeth out and was loopy as h*ll!

    Hope you feel better soon!

  • Sorry to hear that you are in a lot of pain, but its kinda fun to feel "loopy" sometimes.  Hope you feel better :)

Ugh, I just had mine out in March - I think you said yours were impacted?  One of the two I had was and HOLY CRAP, the pain.  Ibuprofen was definitely my friend for a few days.  Hang in there!  Sorry the Vicodin was making you sick; I was alternating between both meds after my surgery.  Did you try taking it on a full stomach?  Maybe that would help?

Ouch. One of mine was impacted, and it definitely sucked. I was fine taking vicodin so long as I had absolutely NO dairy products. Unfortunately I had to find that out the hard way. I tried going back to work two days later and vomited as soon as I got to the office just 'cause I put a little milk on my oatmeal. I'm glad the ibuprofen is working, but I hope you feel better soon!

  • thanks girls!

the vic was weird. i took the first one on a full stomache and went to sleep. i was nauseaus that afternoon while eating something small and went back to bed. i woke up a few hours later, ate something and took another vic and proceeded to go back to sleep (there was a pattern for the day). it wasnt until i ate a popsicle (no dairy, just a popsicle) that i started to throw up..and it was hours after taking the 2nd vic. an hour later i thought i could stomache some brothy soup just so that i had something in my belly....but i was wrong again and threw up more violently the second time. ick! that was enough for me!

i've been nauseaus free since then, but not pain free. the office mgr gave me 2 800mg ibprofen's and i'm holding on to them like gold! the loopiness has worn off, but the pain is creeping back so i'm going to have to take something sooner or later.

since you girls have been through this, i have a question:
it feels like there is either a) something stuck in the back of my teeth where i presume the wisdom teeth were; or b) some of the stitches are coming out a little bit. i read that i shouldnt worry if some of the stitches (they are disolvable) come out....but that isnt stopping me from being totally freaked out. is this ok?

  • Have your H look at it right away! If there is something stuck in there you need to get to the dentist and get it out asap - that can lead to major infection. My stitches didn't start dissolving until like a week or so later, so it may be soon for them to be dissolving. You haven't been using a straw have you? The pressure from sucking can cause the stitches to pull. I remember feeling like my teeth were still there (ghost sensation), and I would use my tongue to check the stitches, but I also had a really easy time with my wisdom teeth, no impaction. If it wasn't for slight overcrowding they would have left them there...

I know since they were impacted that your jaws are probably sore and you don't want to open your mouth that far, but someone definitely needs to take a peek in there. Do they have you squirting them out with salt water yet?

  • ok, i'll have him look at them. my jaw feels much, much, much better today..but it still cant open very much (Zip it!). it, grossly enough (and i know youw ant to know this), feels like there is a hair in my mouth..which is why i think it could be the end of the stitches and not food.

i havent eaten anything other than: scrambled eggs, easy mac, mashed potatoes, oatmeal & ice cream since wednesday (ugh. i can't WAIT to have a big burger!)

  • If it feels like a hair it's most likely your stitches. They'll feel like a stiff bristle or something similar to that. I'd just have your H take a peek to be on the safe side :)
