Perhaps only the other teachers on the board can relate, but today, I just taught my last class with my classroom full of monsters! I survived the year! No more swearing, punching, crying, racist little monsters!
Not to say that there weren't great kids there too, but that class really tested my patience. They gave me a card that said:
"Just watned to tell ya a couple things before I leave grade 8 and your class. I'm so happy I got a chance to meet you, respect you and look up to you. You carry yourself so confidently and leave your mark on every child you meet. I consider you a mentor, a teacher, someone I can truly respect and someone I can look up to. What you taught me this year has made me grow! Ms. Lewis you are a truly unforgetable teacher!"
Notes like that make me feel guilty for calling them monsters!
Re: Woo hoo!
That's a nice card. I totally get the whole summer break thing is required for your sanity thing since I used to teach too.
I used to give the kids an opportunity on the last day of class to (anonymously) critique me - the only rule was that if they were going to say something negative, they had to offer up a solution (so they couldn't just say "you suck" lol). But most of them were really sweet and just nice letters.

Lots of time up at the cottage with my family, that's the summer plan. I need to get out kayaking as much as possible... and I'm thinking of tackling linoprinting as my newest craft project.
That, and maybe quilting.
