Fake Nail question

Ok, so I FINALLY got rid of my fake nails that I got put on for the wedding yesterday.  I soaked them in nail polish remover with acetone until they kinda "popped" off.  Now my real nails looks like complete crap.  What's the best way to get them looking normal again???

Re: Fake Nail question

  • when i used to get them semi-regularly, i pretty much just had to wait it out.  i don't think there is any kind of fix. i used to use a file to try to buff most of the crap off of them, but yeah.
  • Yeah, I've been trying to use a nail buffer, but they still look pretty rough.  I wanted to paint them, but I don't want them to look all scraggly... you think a clear coat might help?

  • I have been using Sally Hansen advanced hard as nails (it's a clear coat).  My nails all broke off very short after removing the artificial nails and were rough and ugly.  Thank goodness my nails grow very fast.  They are about half grown out.  I can't wait for them to be normal.  I don't think I will do the artificial nail thing again.
  • That's why I didn't get fake nails! That and well, they are obviously fake, and mine are pretty long on their own. You just have to wait for them to grow out. It's a pain!

  • I would just go get a manicure at a salon. They aren't that expensive and they can make your nails look nice agian!

  • ugh, this is what I'm dreading.  I am still wearing the nails I had done for the wedding, and I am wondering if I should leave them on for the honeymoon (just getting them refilled) or if I should take them off and deal with how bad my real nails will be.  I'm glad I did it for the wedding because they looked great, but it's sucks having to wait for them to grow out to look normal again.

  • My real nails are super sucky anyway.... they are literally paper thin.... I don't know if it's a lack of calcium or what, but they've never been really "pretty".  They just look even worse now.  I'm debating on having the fake nails put back on anyway.  I just don't want to have to deal with the upkeep of them.... going back in once every one or two weeks to have them filled would be a major pain in the ass.

  • Just wait it out!  Or use a hardening agent to strengthen them.  They're going to stay weak until they grow out b/c there's no new nail being grown at the ends.  Mine are about 1/2 way grown out, and you just have to keep filing and buffing until they're sort of smooth.

    Manicures are good too :)

this is what i would do too, then you can keep them up yourself with a buffer and sally hansen or nail tek nail hardner

This is me too!  I've always had paper thin nails and when I used to get tips you really do just have to wait it out and let them grow.  =( Sorry i don't have better news.  Getting a mani might help. Sally Hansen "Hard as Nails" is good but I use a stuff called Nail Envy made by OPI.  They have different formulas.  I use the soft and thin one.

  • Nail Envy is AWESOME. I use that and I use Solar Oil after I buff; it's a cuticle cream you can put on your entire nail, rub it in good. It helps to smooth it out and somewhat heal the roughness of the fake nails. Mine are about half grown out too, and I'm just keeping them super short for now. That helps.

  • You can even them out with a file and then buff them, or you can wait it out. I kept my fake nails because I am a nail biter and it stops me from chewing them off!
