[POLL] What did you do with your wedding dress?

I'm trying to figure out what to do with my dress... I really don't want to get rid of it!

my dress is currently sitting in my living room..haha, but i plan to get it cleaned and preserved. I just have no clue where i'm going to store that enormous ball gown. there is no room for something so large in my closet!

  • JJJJ! mine too!!! I feel better right now! And yes, I pretend to clean and preserve, and probably send it to my mother?s bigger house in Spain! Manhattan appartments don?t have space enought...
  • I am going to clean and preserve it.  I would like to think that some day my niece will wear it but who knows.
  • cleaned and preserved too, its currently at my moms house in my old bedroom closet and it will probably go right back there after its cleaned
  • I mean... I'm planning on getting it cleaned and preserved and putting it away. But right now its just hanging in our closet.  It IS in the garment bag though.

  • My photographer told me to cut the hanging straps out of mine on my wedding day.  So now, there are no straps to hang it up! It's just laying across the ironing board in the guest bedroom with my veil on top of it! My original plan was to sell it online, but I didn't want to part with it right after the wedding.  I think I may be ready soon, though.  :/

  • When we have kids, I'm going to have it made into a christening gown!

If you still have the straps or some other ribbon just safety pin it in, and you can hang it again. It's easier to do if you had left a little of the original to pin in to.

Same here. I feel silly paying more to have it cleaned and preserved than I paid for the dress in the first place! It's classic enough that I think there is a chance that someone might want it someday, though...

  • I wanted to trash the dress, but my mom vetoed that and, well, she bought it so it is her choice. It's hanging in the closet now, but when either HH or I get a job we will have some extra money and I will get it cleaned and preserved.

  • I donated mine to Brides Against Breast Cancer. another bride will be able to wear it, and the proceeds will go to help people who are losing their fight with breast cancer fulfill wishes.

  • I plan on having it cleaned, but not preserved.  I don't want it stuck in a box where I can't take it out and look at it.  I think preservation is just another way to make money off of brides.  My grandma's wedding gown is 60 years old and still in perfect shape without being preserved and I've seen plenty of garments that are just as old or older that are also in perfect shape without any special treatment.

  • Currently is it sitting dirty in it's garmet bag in the closet. Maybe I'll get it cleaned. I also thought of doing TTD in the fall when it cools down here. I have so many wedding pictures though, so do I really need another set of pictures of me in my dress? Idk.

  • Mine is at the cleaner's getting cleaned right now but when I get back I plan  on selling it. I am not a super emotioal or sentimental person so the memories I have about the day aren't connected to the dress...more the people that were there. I would be perfectly happy selling it and knowing some other bride will be able to get her own memories. Besides a little extra money wouldn't be mad either :)

  • I am having mine cleaned and professionally boxed up. I am afraid that if I trash it or sell it, I will regret it later.

  • mine is basically on the floor in the basement where i left it the next day.  we are going to do a trash the dress session later this year and then i'll probably have it cleaned and give it away to something like brides against breast cancer.
  • Mine is still hanging up on our guest room closet - I keep meaning to get it cleaned / preserved but I don't know where to get that done...eh, I'll get around to it one of these days...
The Bump ate my signature. DD - Apr 2011 DS - expected June 2013
  • Mine is in a rubbermaid tote waiting to be to be put away. I haven't had it cleaned yet but I'm planning to sometime.
