poll: purses

I'm not much of a purse person. In fact, the last purse I bought was in late 2007, so it was 2.5 years ago. (No wait,  I take that back - I did get one other woven bag last year, but that's a beach tote and not something I'd normally carry so I don't count it.) The one I bought in 2007 is the one that I use daily - it's black, classic, and has held up really well, and I probably won't bother buying another until this one falls apart. You may commence pearl clutching now. Stick out tongue

As you can probably guess I absolutely cannot be bothered changing my purse to match an outfit (can you tell I'm really not the most fashionable person around lol?). I do own other purses - I just don't use them. Shifting all my crap from one purse to another every day just seems like the biggest PITA to me (then again, I'm one of those people who carries around all kinds of crap - maybe if I just had my wallet and phone I'd think differently).

Re: poll: purses

  • Okay, I also own several purses... but they're ancient. I have this totally ratty canvas one from Japan that I can't bear to part with because it's travelled all over the world with me.

My other bags? I'm not such a big fan. I've been perusing some designer bags, but I'm such a messy person... I feel like nice things are wasted on me sometimes.

  • i don't know if i should vote for "we can hold hands in hell" or "i'm a special purse snowflake"...i love purses - on other people.  I can't seem to find any that i like for me.  I have a very small, very basic black prada that i've been using since (thinking...counting...) erm, 2000?  Embarrassed yes, that would be 10 years.  maybe even 1999.  i use it every single day.  it's microfiber and still looks exactly the same as the day i got it.  i have bought one other purse since 2002-ish - a big yellow bucket/tote that i love, just got it in dec, but i can't seem to do the big purse thing.  i don't know what to put in it!  so i've used it maybe 4 times.  i often have purse envy when i see great purses on others!  just never seem to find one that i want to buy when i try to go purse shopping.  Sad  some of it may be that i'm too cheap?  but if it's a bag i will use for another 10 years Stick out tongue, i should be willing to spend for it...

hrm, maybe i'll use my yellow bag today - when i go meet our visiting nesties!

eta: my black bag is so little, it also fits great inside my laptop bag, so i don't have to carry two bags every day to work!  and they count as a single carry-on when i get on the plane!   ...i think i'm a special snowflake.

  • I voted Special Snowflake, because I consider myself a purse kind of gal, but I don't switch it out everyday to match my outfit.  I usually buy a new one every 4-6 months (reasonably priced ones from Kohl's or someplace like that) and use it until I am bored of it and then either buy a new one or switch back to an older one.  I just got a new one nude one from The Limited that I am in love with!  Also, if I am going out with girlfriends to a bar or going on a date I will switch to smaller purse to match my outfit.
  • I'm a "special" girl. Well I meant, I fall into the "special" category..........ok, never mind, you know what I mean.

Anyways, I have like 3, maybe 4 really super nice purses.  And that's all I need.  They are Gucci and Louis Vuitton and I never purchased one of them.  Other people did and that's why I will never purchase one myself.  But I LOVE them with a passion and each one fits a different purpose for me.  I'm not "that" girl that needs a new Coach purse every year.  Just not my thing.  You can all flame me now, but Coach has gotten a tad over done if you ask me.  Maybe because I see 5th graders carrying them around and something about that upsets me.

I will have these purses until the day I die.  My outfit for the day means nothing to me in regards to my purses.  Good purses, in my opinion, go with everything.

One of my co-workers at my last job had a purse for every color to match each outfit.  That's alot of work!

  • i'm with you... last purse i got was 2 yrs ago for our 3 yr wedding anniversary.  i hate changing out purses too even if it doesn't take that long.  i do appreciate a cute purse though, i'm just too frugal to fork out the cash for a new one all the time.
  • I go in phases.  I'll have a few months where I do change out my purse once a week or so, to match my mood or outfit.  Then I'll have several months (like lately) where I'll use my ratty old black canvas cross body bag, and that's it.  I do hate changing out all the stuff.

I have quite a few purses, but don't ever spend much money on them.  I'd like a really nice bag, but in order to spend that kind of money, I want it to be so versatile that I can use it with everything, and I've never seen that bag yet!  I've actually been shopping around for a new bag lately, but without any luck.  I do love a cross body bag for when I'm out shopping, etc.  And I'm tall, so many that are supposed to go across still aren't long enough for me.  I guess I'm pretty picky!

  • i fall into the special category as well too.  i am not a change my purse to match my outfit kind of a gal-i am of the school of thought purchase one super nice $$$ handbag that will work with all or most outfits-I do however switch to an evening bag when i go out at night.  i had not purchased a new bag in 3 or 4 years maybe more, and this year as an early b-day gift I bought another snakeskin bag-oops I also forgot to mention that my handbag material of choice is painted snakeskin-

the style of bag i bought is

    image

but was purchased in this colour although the picture does not do the colour justice-in real life it looks like a mermaid.  coincidently my other handbag is in style below in bright green-I felt so guilty after my purchase that I could not even use the bag for two months-that said over that now.

  • *raises hand* ...another special snowflake here.  I have several good-quality bags (I buy maybe one new bag a year), and I carry one for about 2-4 months, then switch to another one.  If we go to a party or a nicer dinner, I'll take the essentials out of my regular bag and transfer them to a smaller evening bag or a clutch.  Other than that, I don't much care if purse matches (or clashes with) my outfit.  I have enough variety that I could maybe coordinate if I wanted to, but... I guess I'm too lazy to do it!  Sounds like a PITA.

I voted for "special snowflake". I'm not really a big purse person cuz I have a everyday Saks Fifth purse (got as a gift) that I use for going to work or running errands/grocery shopping. I'm too lazy to take all my stuff out and change purses often, so I change it whenever it breaks or gets too worn, whenever that is. But then I have a set of purses I use when I'm going out to dinner or somewhere nice or sometimes just whenever I feel in the mood--and that would match my outfit. My last nicest bag is a Gucci bag that I got 2 years ago (also as a gift) that serves as a purse and is big enough to fit my small laptop. I used to use it all the time when I traveled but I haven't done much traveling so I've been just using my everyday bag for the past year or so.

I'm with you. I've never seen what the big deal is about Coach. Their bags are well made compared to cheapies, but not that much more well made than many lower priced brands - plus I haaaaaaate the logo on everything! I also don't think their designs are anything special.

Ooops!  I like coach Embarrassed - well the leather ones, not the logo ones.  While I appreciate good quality, well made, good materials purses, I'm much too much of a cheapie to buy them.  I am actually using my mom's coach purse right now (I swapped my fossil purse for this one.  MH keeps joking when I'm going to give my 'loaner' back).  It's black leather.  I hate swapping out the contents of any purse, so I typically use one until it dies.  But I have switched to little, I don't know what they are called, I guess coin purses to hold various things (coupons and gift cards in one, some jewelry and medications in another) so that way if I do have to switch bags, I just throw in 3 or 4 zipped up containers and my wallet.

PS - saw Sandra's yellow purse today and I totally have purse envy!  Wink

this is what i do too.  i view my shoes and handbags as statements - not to just coordination pieces - a great shoe or bag can totally make an outfit Wink

tehe, i love how you felt too guilty to use it at first Smile  i love snakeskin bags!  but i have to just admire them from afar.  there is absolutely no occasion for me to ever carry one, sadly.  imageannasan_k:But I have switched to little, I don't know what they are called, I guess coin purses to hold various things (coupons and gift cards in one, some jewelry and medications in another) so that way if I do have to switch bags, I just throw in 3 or 4 zipped up containers and my wallet.PS - saw Sandra's yellow purse today and I totally have purse envy!  Wink

that's similar to what i do too - i have a little card holder for all my random gift cards and coupons.  that said, my yellow bag is so big, and the black one so small, i now just put the entire black bag in the yellow bag - yes, i am that lazy Smile - and then throw in whatever else i need.

and thanks!  i'm glad i brought it then Wink  haha.

  • I've been anti-Coach for ages, but over the past few months, I've really started liking some of their stuff (leather, not logo based, although one of my coworkers has a super cute green and white logo bag that looks adorable)!
  • I also selected the "snowflake" category.  I use a purse liner so it's not too much of a PITA to swap from one bag to another.  I switch between about 5 purses throughout the year, although I have to say the two I use the most are a small black Gaultier shoulder bag, and a big white Matt&Nat tote bag.
