Lets get to know each other!

So I have been a total creepy lurker on the other boards since joining TN, but this is the only one that I post to.  (Obviously because I love you the most).  But one thing I've noticed with some of the other boards is how close the regular posters seem to be.  I want that!  So I thought it would be great to get to know each other better :)  We've already talked weddings and babies, and what we do for a living...what else do you want to know?

I'll go first - ask me anything!  I'll do my best to answer :)

He called back and asked for my mother. I was so embarrased that I hung up on him and he never let me live that down. haha pam! you are too funny! now lets see a funny story....i have two brothers, does that explain enough?

We had this one dog that when you would antagonize him to run around he would start chasing you and gnaw on your leg (not to the point of breaking skin, but nipping) Well I'm the oldest, so me and my middle brother used to rile the dog up in our playroom in the basement and then we would jump on the couch and not let my littlest brother up on the couch and the dog always use to nip him, it was a game and we called it chicken legs!

haha omg that sounds so awful but what memories it brings back!!!

  • I'm a nurse and HH and I have technically known each other for 13 years, but didn't really talk until 3 1/2 years ago when we met at a party.  We worked together at a grocery store when were were 16, but I was too shy to talk to him, b/c he was too cute for me.  We knew the same people, even went to the same college at the same time and parked in the same parking lot and rode the same bus!!  But we didn't cross paths until November 2006. I love our love story :)

When I was a kid (like 13), my little sister (she was 10 at the time) and I were play fighting and I had pinned her to the ground and I was laughing so hard that I drooled on her face!  Right by her chin! We still laugh about it to this day.

  • I am a primary school teacher, HH and I have known each other for 4.5 years, and I love scrapbooking too!  Also LOVE reading, and I used to count working out in there but not so much this past year...renewing the ol' gym membership in July :)

A funny childhood memory...well, I'm the youngest of four kids so I have plenty, but this one sticks out.  My brother used to hate that I would try to play in his room and with his things, so when I was about 6 years old he put a poster of Freddy Krueger on his bedroom door.  I was so scared of that poster that I wouldn't even go down the hallway that his bedroom was in.  He then thought it would be funny to tell me that Freddy Krueger lives in the sewers, and that since all toilets are connected to sewers, that he could grab me when I was sitting on the toilet and pull me down.  Obviously I believed this only affected the toilets in our basement, and that I was safe using the upstairs bathrooms, but I had a phobia of using the basement bathrooms at my parents house for YEARS.

New Question: What is the scariest thing you've ever done? I love extreme sports so I've done a few scary things, but bungee jumping was by far the scariest!  (Yes, waaaaay scarier than sky diving!)

Good question! I'd have to say riding a motorcycle. My husband recently got his license and convinced me to take a ride with him (mind you its like 4 weeks before the wedding!). I was absolutely TERRIFIED.  Now, I love it!!!

  • Lets see... DH and I have known each other for 4 years. (so short compared to most of you ladies!)  I am a pastry chef. Hmmm hobbies... I love to cook and bake (when I'm not at work), Yoga annnnnnnd curling up to watch movies with the hubs. Oh and reading (pretty much only non-fiction)!

When I was about 5 or 6 years old I was taking a shower.  My dad was in the bathroom with me and I said "Daddy look I'm a bunny rabbit" and starting bouncing up and down in the tub.  I proceeded to slip and bust my chin open on the drain (the kind you turn to close with the knob on the top).  When I went to the hospital to get stiches I just remember the nurse telling me "now close your eyes and don't open them!  The Dr. is really ugly so keep them closed tight and you'll get a balloon!"  What seemed like 2 minutes later and no pain at all I opened my eyes to a balloon, a sticker AND a lollipop oh and 6 stiches in my chin. I remember my parents freaking out (in a very calm manner) because of all the blood but I was like "what's goin on?" HAHA!

Scariest thing? Uhhh... I have no idea. I mean I got a tattoo when I was 18 that my parents STILL don't know about! But that's not really scary.

NEW QUESTION: What is your favorite thing to cook?  Mine is Macaroni and Cheese.  I use about 7 different kinds of cheese on average and my friend refers to it as "crack mac"!

  • I want to play!

What do you do?  Right now I work at a fabric store, but my real line of work is interior design and visual merchandising.  I'm also finishing my masters in gerontology.  I want to design assisted living and nursing home facilities.

How long have you known your husband?  Nine years

What are you hobbies?  Reading, dancing, sewing, baking, and working out

Funny story from childhood: One Easter we were having an Easter egg hunt and it was muddy out.  For some reason I decided to just sit down in a huge mud puddle.  My mom wasn't too happy since I totally ruined the cute dress she had just bought me.

What is the scariest thing you have ever done?   Last fall HH and I hiked Mt. Baldy.  It was a 16 mile hike and once you got towards the top the trail was only about a foot wide and it was a straight drop off the side.  Mind you, I'm very afraid of heights and the top of the mountain is over 10,000 feet high.  Add in the fact that the wind was strong enough that it was truly blowing me over and I was scared to death!!

  • Lots of questions! Let's see. I'm a librarian. I've known Matt for almost 3 years-- will be 3 years in August/September, depending on whether you count from first contact (online) or first face-to-face meeting. We've been "together" since November of 2007.

I have about a bazillion hobbies and really need to whittle it down and get a focus! I read a lot. I like to run and do Pilates. I love hiking. I'm a knitter (just finished a baby blanket! Yay!). I like to write letters to people. I like visiting my grandparents because they are some of the coolest people I know. I love, love, love animals and at various points in my childhood had turtles, dogs, cats, horses, goats, chickens, a quail, and two hermit crabs (all simultaneously except for the turtles).

The scariest thing I've ever done was probably canoeing the Missinaibi River as a kid. This was against my will (my parents are pretty hardcore), so I'm not sure if it counts. We took wilderness canoe trips in Canada every summer when I was a kid and teenager, but that one was scariest because of the waterfalls and rapids where people died.

  • Ok: What do I do: I am a full time nursing student year round. It basically should be called a job because it is a TON of work.

How long have you known your husband: We meet a few weeks before going out so 5 years

Hobbies: I love to read, cook, and knit. I only know one knit stitch and can only knit in a straight line back and forth but I really hope to learn more lol. I did knit a blanket though! DH and I both like to play tennis too but the weather hasn't been cooperating lately. But with school right now hobbies are on the back burner.

Scariest thing: I can't thing of something that was enjoyable/scary such as sky diving which I want to do! But I am incredibly scared of the dark (side note: the best thing about getting married was having someone turn the light off after I got into bed). Anyways some friends decided we should go to a corn maze during October a couple years ago. What they forgot to mention was that the corn maze was in the middle of the night (thus dark) and was a hanuted maze with people jumping out at you and basic scariness. It was HORRIBLE!!!

Favorite thing to cook: Zucchini Bread because I know DH loves it. I'll start it while he is at work so as soon as he walks into the house he can smell it. Mmm delicious!

  • - I'm a Accounts Receivable Specialist for a Mental Health Company.
    - DH and I have known each other for a little over 6 years in August!
    - My hobbies consist of crafting (I'm thinking about making my first quilt soon too Pam!), scrap booking, and hiking with the hubs!
    - The story that comes to mind about my childhood is when I was 4, a couple of weeks away from turning 5, I went up to my mom and asked her, "When I turn five, I'll turn back into a baby, right?" This still makes me laugh to think about it! I was so serious when I asked her too!
    - The scariest thing I've EVER done was riding the drop zone at Carowinds...I seriously thought I would die before that thing got back to the bottom!
    - I'm not really a good cook (that I know of, I haven't ever really tried; if we can get in our house anytime soon so that I could start cooking...), I'd like to make homemade chicken & dumplings or chicken casserole.

  • Jenny, you need to post the recipe for crack mac.  I'm sure it's awesome.

I prefer baking over cooking, but my favorite thing cooking wise is meatball subs (turkey meatballs).  It's HH's favorite thing I make and I love them too.

  • Occupation: I work at a community college as a supplemental instructor

Hobbies: I don't have many. I like to decorate & shop for our house. I like to make photobooks online and have made a few for family members + one for myself last night!

Cooking: The best thing I make is probably cajun chicken pasta. It is a favorite with a white wine sauce! I use to hate to cook, but I have learned to enjoy it since living with HH. Plus it is much cheaper and better for you than eating out all the time!

Scariest thing: When I was 21, I flew across the country to meet a guy I had never met before. 4 years later we got married :)

Childhood story: I'm such a clean freak and that was apparent even as a child. I'm the oldest of 2, and I would tell my brother a fun game was to "clean your toy box" I would make him clean out his toy box, and I'd act like it was a game haha.

  • I'm a dispatcher/receptionist for an elevator company. I've know HH 3 years next month. My hobbies are cooking and reading and my favorite thing to cook is hashbrown casserole! Mmmmm I love it! I've never done anything really scary but I would love to go white water rafting! My childhood story would be when I was little (I'm not sure how old I was) I was swimming in a river with my dad and uncle. We were in a small swimming hole and there happened to be a fish in there that was constantly jumping out of the water. I was convinced the fish was chasing me and trying to bite me so I kept swimming back and forth between my dad and uncle screaming. They thought it was hilarious lol.

  • What I do: I'm in my last year of pharmacy school, doing my year of practical experience.

I've known my husband for three years in August. I know it's not long compared to you guys, but it seems like I've known him forever.

Childhood story: I was about 11 and it was Friday the 13th.  My friend (who lived a block away) and I decided we were going to sneak out at midnight and go walk to the cemetery that was in our neighborhood.  This was the middle of the winter, so there was snow. I got all dressed up in my snow suit/coat/boots.  I went to meet my friend, but didn't find her and decided to come home. I then realized that I had locked myself out of the house. Luckily the front door was unlocked (we lived in a really small town), but it was right next to my parent's bedroom.  Needless to say, my mom woke up and caught me as I was taking off my snowsuit. She asked what I was doing. I told her that I didn't know because I was sleep walking.  The best part... She actually BELIEVED me!

Hobbies: I like crocheting and cross stitching. I use to love to sew, but haven't done that in forever.  I also love learning random things for no reason. Sadly, I never finish learning something. I'm hoping to get back into programing and braille.  My husband got me interested in both of those.   He's a visually impaired computer guy.  I made him teach me the braille alphabet when he couldn't sleep one night, lol.

My favorite thing to cook is cheesy hashbrowns.  Yum!
