Random Thoughts for Monday

There was a weird computer glitch on Friday when I converted a 2 page Word document into a PDF.  Instead of it being 2 pages, it was 14 pages!  It was the 2 page document repeated 7 times.  I even posted it to out website that way.  There were some very confused people.  Oops.

Also, all of the emails I sent out on Friday after 2:00 were send back to me as undeliverable.  I had 56 notices in my email this morning.  Yikes.   I guess there's an issue with our server.

Re: Random Thoughts for Monday

  • Yuck, I hate random tech issues.  Hope it's better today.

I have a feeling that this week is going to drag, because I'm ready for the holiday weekend NOW.

    How was everyone's weekend?

I hear ya.  I did not want to get up this morning.   I wish tomorrow was Friday.

The weekend was good.  Saturday I got up early and got a haircut, then sat outside on the deck with some coffee and a book until a friend called to see if I wanted to cruise the mall for a while.  It was nice to go out and do something girly.  Sunday was ok except for the rain.  We didn't do much except clean up the house a bit and make dinner.

  • My weekend was really nice. Saturday we just laid low for most of it and yesterday I had a wedding shower for my cousin and then my nephew's birthday party. He turns 3 tomorrow and there was a whole lot of dinosaurs in his house. He's very happy about that. He can even tell you some of the names of the dinosaurs. It's fun to see how much he is talking now. Last year he wasn't saying a whole lot now its a ton of things.

I don't think I got to mention this last week in a random so I'll do it here. My Mom have hit by a semi last tuesday. She OK, a bit sore. The semi backed into her while on private property. Insurance totaled the car.

  • We've been having server issues since Thursday.  I was hoping it was going to get fixed over the weekend, but it's still screwed up today.
  • My weekend was ok.  I've decided to give H another chance, only because he's agreed to both marital counseling and AA.  And I am certain he did not cheat on me.  However if he ever touches me again, I will be leaving immediately.
  • I have a recipe rave from the weekend: Texas Caviar w/Avacado.  It was easy to make and super delicious - I brought it to a family gathering on Sunday and it seemed to go over really well. :-)

On Friday I took my Mama out to lunch and a movie for her B-Day - we saw Toy Story 2 and I REALLY liked it.  Kids movies rock.

Saturday we had a race which went okay, but apparently they had a BBQ after at a nearby park for the participants, which we weren't aware of.  So we missed out on ice cream and grilled meat which is kind of a bummer.

  • My weekend was freaking awesome.  We ended up having to work until 11 p.m. on Friday, but didn't have to come in on Saturday.

Early Saturday morning we headed to the east side where I participated in an outdoors woman event.  I got to try archery, learn about camping/backpacking, and try kayaking.  Kayaking was fantastic and now I want to buy one and start paddling on a regular basis.  Love it!

On Sunday, I got to see my parents' new kittens.  They are four weeks old and super precious.  I had so much fun playing with them.

I have a short day scheduled for Friday and cannot wait for the holiday.  We are visiting friends and it should be another great weekend.

That sounds sweet!  Andy really wants to get into kayaking but I have a fear of water (anything not in a pool type water).  I know I need to get over it, but kayaks scare me a little more because I feel like if they tip I'd just panic and be stuck in it upside down and then I'm drowned.  I know that's completely irrational though - were you scared at all or did you ever tip?

I am also afraid of open water.  I don't really like swimming in a lake or ocean where I can't touch bottom.

The kayak felt really stable and I wasn't afraid at all.  We were on a calm inland lake.  This morning I was reading some tips for beginner kayakers and the way to get out if you roll sounds kind of scary, but I think it would be okay.  If we get kayaks, I might take a couple of lessons just to be safer.

There are a few places in Grand Haven where you can rent--$35 for a day.  If you try it out, you might find you really like it.

Good to know.  I think I would want to take swimming and kayak lessons if we ever went that route.  I can swim, but I never was taught the proper way so I think I might feel more comfortable if I was more confident in my ability to stay afloat.

You should also be wearing a PFD (lifejacket) when you kayak, so that might help your confidence in your ability to stay afloat.  It really helps me to be less afraid.  I am pretty sure I won't drown because of the PFD.

My friends bought me a PFD about 4 or 5 years ago after I nearly had a panic attack on a tubing trip.  I definitely feel better with one on, even if I look ridiculous.

  • Our weekend was great, but it went by way too fast, as usual. Friday I had a haircut and then went shopping with my mom. I had the best onion rings and pie I've ever had, seriously. So amazing. If you're ever in Lansing, and have a chance, go to a drive in called the Nip and Sip, the onion rings are heaven. And in Dewitt there's a pie place, Sweetie-licious Bakery Cafe, so good. Relaxed the rest of the day.

Saturday was craziness. We got up and headed to go kayaking. Rex's dad has been working on a sculpture for Verlen Kruger for the past couple of years and this weekend was the unveiling. To kick it off, they did a big canoe/kayak flotilla down the river to the place where is was to be unveiled. So we got there, after a couple hours canoeing, rushed home to clean up and change, headed back out for the official unveiling. Left the unveiling for his dad's retirement party, and didn't leave until 3 am. I'm still beat.

Yesterday was pure laziness. Sitting around playing cards on the deck catching up on sleep. I'm really dragging today, but so ready for the holiday weekend!

Hang in there! He better realize that he is a lucky guy and do what he promises to do - AA and marital counseling. I wish you the best for you and your hubby and your family.

  • Well the weekend was too busy. I nannied the kids all weekend long and we had them them all night Saturday and yesterday so I was tuckered out by the end of the night. Looking forward to the holiday weekend but I have to work on the 5th. Does anyone else?

  • My weekend was good. Saturday we went to Ludington and spent the night with some friends.  It was nice, but I was seriously unimpressed with Ludington...but it may be because we didn't have much of a chance to explore everything.  The downtown was okay, the city beach was the HIGHLIGHT, but I think I'd get bored if I was vacationing there.

Yesterday we came home in the POURING rain...a few accidents on the way back!  I then created 31 baby shower invites, created a card making video to start expanding what I offer on my blog and did a few other key things on the blog.

I have a two day week.  Which is freaking awesome.  I'm going to a leadership conference in Indianapolis.  But honestly right now I want to stay home and work on my blog!  Luckilly the internet is available all around the world, so I can probably get some of the work done during breaks.

  • Mike's van is going to be done tomorrow. Whopee. It was a blown head gasket and warped heads. It's going to be a few hundred more than what we thought but we are allowed to make payments and we will have the vehicle back. Yeah!!!!

  • Here's a random for you:

Yesterday at the parents house, we were talking about how Jack looks so much like my bro when he was a baby.  Mom broke out the newspaper ad my brother was in when he was a kid, from November or 1979.  There was an article in the newspaper "A Woman on the U.S. Supreme Court?" with some crazily sexist quotes.  There was also an article on how rugged jackets were the fashion and instructions on how to knit one for the man in your life.

I hope he makes the best at this second chance.  Best wishes.
