I think it was you asking for San Diego recs, right? DH and I just got back from our trip there, and here are a few of my favorite things we did...
* We stayed in the Sofia Hotel- great location, right near Gaslamp, extremely helpful and friendly staff. You did have to pay for valet parking (unless you want to park on the street), but it was totally worth it IMO. The valet guys were awesome, flocked your car the second you pulled up, opening doors and helping you with your bags. When you needed your car, they ran (literally, sprinted) to get it and it never took more than 2 minutes. So convenient.
Highly recommend spending a day (possibly more) in Balboa Park. There are countless museums and gardens there, so no matter what your interests are, there is plenty to see.
* We did the SD Zoo there, which was a lot of fun. We went early (9:30AM-ish) and most of the animals were pretty active. I think it was feeding time for a lot of them, and that they sleep later in the day when it gets warmer.
In Balboa Park we also went to:
* the Spanish Village (which is a little plaza full of art galleries- awesome)
* the Rose and Cactus Garden (very pretty)
* Museum of Man (interesting, beautiful architecture)
* the Koi Pond and Botanical Garden (again, very pretty)
* had lunch at the Cafe at Sculpture Court in SDMA (delicious)
* Went to Altitude Lounge at the top of the Marriott in Gaslamp Quarter for a couple drinks. Get there early, for happy hour as it's a bit small. The views of the city are great, especially if there is a Padres game going on (overlooks the stadium).
* Drove to Sunset Cliffs on the other side of the Bay one evening and hiked down to the beach- great views
* La Puerta for brunch was great- delicious, authentic (at least as far as I know) Mexican food, cool decor, and $1 mimosas
* We drove a bit north one day, stopping at Mission Bay and La Jolla. Mission Bay was cool- it is definitely touristy, but it had a nice beach and shops, restaurants, an amusement pier, and boardwalk. La Jolla was similar, but a bit more upscale. We went kayaking in the caves there- which I'd highly recommend. That was gorgeous!
Sorry it turned out so long. I meant to write about a couple highlights,
but apparently I liked almost everything!! It was a truly gorgeous city. I'm excited for you, you'll have so much fun!!
Re: *mandyandmike* re: San Diego- LONG!
Thanks!!!! This is great, $1 mimosas in Cali? WOW
Kayaking in the caves sounds like something my DH would LOVE to do. Thanks again for all the info, this will be very helpful for us!!!!
You're welcome, I hope it helps! And I know, right?!? You can't beat that.
